Appointed Senior Coach in 2011, following on from the succession plan set in place during Paul Roos final year.

He led the Swans to another finals series in 2011, finishing 7th and knocking off the much more fancied St Kilda (6th) in the elimination final, before succumbing to a superior Hawthorn in the Semi Final.

In 2012, he led a much invigorated side, who faltered only a few times during the season, before stumbling at the season end to fall from 1st to 3rd. Travelling to Adelaide for the Qualifying Final, the swans played like a team possessed, and led for every minute of the game. 2 weeks later the Swans stunned Collingwood who had no answer to the self possessed swans.
1 week later the swans were outplayed in the first quarter of the 2012 Grand Final, before Longmire tweaked the side, and they poured on 8 unanswered goals. Hawthorn hit back to take the lead early in the last qtr. In an inspiring effort the swans kicked the last 4 goals of the game to give Longmire his first Premiership as Coach.

2013 saw many injuries to key players, but the Swans still managed to make another Preliminary Final, losing to Fremantle on their home turf.
