    Micky O thanks Rocket

    Report in the Telegraph

    Hall cleared

SYDNEY forward Barry Hall is clear to take on Fremantle on Sunday after being cleared of a head-butting charge by the AFL tribunal last night.

Hall, 26, was found not guilty of head-butting Carlton defender Simon Beaumont during last Saturday's clash at Optus Oval.

Tribunal chairman Brian Collis said Hall's action was unnecessary and crude, but added that the three-man panel was not satisfied there was sufficient force in the contact to constitute a head-butt.

Hall's availability for Sunday's home clash against the seventh-placed Dockers is the second piece of good news this week for the Swans.

Not even heartfelt pleas from family and friends could convince Michael O'Loughlin to ditch the Sydney Swans.

The Adelaide-born and bred star was briefly tempted to return home before re-signing with the Swans for four years this week.

"There was a fair bit of pressure from my family and friends," O'Loughlin said.

"They just wanted me to come home but my heart was always here. I don't think they cared who I played for, they just wanted me home.

"But I've always enjoyed my time here. The people in Sydney are fantastic and the footy club has been awesome so it would be pretty hard to leave this club."

Despite being just 26, O'Loughlin is widely considered one of the veterans and took on extra responsibility in the side when stalwarts Paul Kelly and Andrew Dunkley retired.

This is O'Loughlin's ninth season at the club after being drafted when he was 17.

"I'm feeling old, I tell you now," O'Loughlin said.

"I guess this year has been about making sure that I have been more of a leader and helping the young guys to develop."

O'Loughlin has been keen to do for rookies, such as Adam Schneider, what the club did for him.

"Ever since I have come here, they've made me feel welcome and they've looked after me," he said.

"I think the friends that I have made here also convinced me to stay."

The Swans' success this year ? they sit in second spot on the ladder ? also played a part in convincing O'Loughlin to stay.

"[Coach] Paul Roos has bought a pretty strong game plan in and the boys are playing good and we are reaping the rewards," he said.

O'Loughlin credits former Swans coach Rodney Eade with his success.

"Rodney Eade was fantastic, he developed me and show me what was required to be an AFL player," he said.

"Without him I wouldn't be where I am today."

I agree that Rocket has to take some credit for the way the swans are travelling - Even though his words were falling on deaf ears his recruitment and preceeding years efforts has help place the Swans where they are now.

I was keen to get Roosy and think he is the man to get us a flag or 2 but credit where credit is due.

If / when the swans make the finals I would ask Rocket for imput unofficially on options and set ups - Match day expert - time to use all options to go the last mile...........

No need to eat words but use his knowledge?
