Out of the ashes rises the phoenix (Swan)

When we lost to North and Wally passed away, anything could have happened.

The guys were shattered. We could have lost our bundle completely. Dropped the big game against Melbourne. Gone down to Essendon. Season over.

Rather the guys have regrouped and I have never seen them more focused or motivated. We have won four straight since that match; two home and two away and now have the consistency we have always lacked.

Asked the question earlier how a side can defeat the unbeaten St Kilda and lose to Richmond. Just doesn't make sense.
But now the team seems to possess a steely resolve about it which means they are coming to play. No more games when the opposition gets a comfortable 3-4 goal cushion in the opening quarter because we are asleep.

We may not win the flag but we aren't going to be shooting ourselves in the foot anymore, being our own worst enemy. It is going to require one heck of an effort for a side to beat us. They will have to worry about their own demons and then ours because we are going to be harder at the footy than they our. More dedicated and harder running. Doing all the one-percenters. Not worrying about pushing and shoving, just the football.

Since the final 8 has been reformed, only Hawthorn in 2001 was able to make the preliminary final from the bottom half of the eight - we will become the second side to do so.

And so Wally, with you looking on from skies above, we dare not fail you and after saying for 70 years that this year is going to be the one, this time we may finally be right.
