Seven, 10 up ante for TV rights

it also emerged yesterday that the Ten Network had guaranteed live Saturday night coverage into the lucrative Sydney market for every round of the AFL home-and-away seasons between 2007 and 2012.

Sounds like Ten might actually improve the crap coverage they have given over the last few years. Don't think for a moment, that it was only Sydney who had delayed telecasts on Saturday nights, it happened in Victoria as well (although often only a half an hour delay), particularly when the Swans were playing, it was a delayed "live" telecast Can't comment too much on the other teams "live" status on a Saturday night as I'm never as interested as when the Swans are playing. If what they are promising actually happens then it is good news all around.

That is ratings suicide for TEN, especially for non-Swans game.

The half hour delay allows the stations to edit the match for ad breaks. It carries a bit of risk if u are at home refusing to answer the phone in case someone's calling from the ground to say "WE WON!"

It could be Channel 36,sydney's community tv station, for all i care!

As long as the free to air rights are taken off Channel 9!
Well done Craig Bolton for getting the co- captaincy in 2008.

Your determination, your tenacity and your under-rated skill is why you have become my favourite player!

The only problem with that is that 7 will then have them again For "Southern states" viewers, we get a better deal from 9, but I can understand the frustration of "northern states" viewers with 9 because it sounds exactly the same as how 7 treated Townsville (and from what I was told the rest of Qld and NSW) in the bad old days from 94-96. I lived there then and it was ridiculous how bad the timings and coverage was back then. The only consolation was that I learned very quickly how to set my VCR to tape "live" games played at 1.00am on Saturday morning.

If I had my way Channel 9 would lose the rights to the AFL. The only downer to that is that we will have to put up with Bruce "The W@nker " McAvaney again.

Do we actually have information to suggest that Bruce is still alive?

We can always hope not. Unfortunately I saw him on some promo last week about the Commonwealth Games, or maybe it was the Australian Open. I always turn off as soon as he comes on.

The only guarantee is that it will be @@@@ whoever gets it.

7 - We get BRUCE and cross promoting with dancing with the stars (Daryl Somers performs at the GF and releases his "Football Favourites" featuring all the club songs, up there cazaly, etc).

My tip: Joanna Griggs becomes first female AFL commentator.

9 - We get Eddie and cross promoting with ... well... um... Eddie as they have no other shows.

10 - We keep Walls and Australian Idol.

Shame SBS didn't want to touch it.......

We should go back to the days of the ABC having the TV rights, as long as they play the Saturday night games after "The Bill"

                            TV Rights

I can never work out why TV stations don't listen to the fans about inept commentators. I can stand Walls becaue he is never other than interesting (even if you don't agree with him)...but Silvagni...I am yet to hear him say anything coherent, let alone decisive.
He is simply not a commentator.
