    New rule changes

YOu might have thought this topic had been done to death but not yet!

Interesting article suggesting that the most significant change will be the interpretation of holding/blocking in the marking contest. If they're dinkum about this look to BBBH to score 150 goals this year - however, I think that's an unlikely event...

How will our midget backline cope? On the face of it, perhaps better than you might think coz I think the Boltons & Barrys depend more on leap & positioning than scragging, but it's another test for them no doubt.

Generally, the Swans were slow to adapt to the new HTB rule last year - will they be more prepared for these changes, especially as many of them are perceived to have been designed specifically to counter the "ugly Swan" routine?

Perhaps a storm in a teacup but then again, maybe not.

Not looked real close at these issues, but has anyone got the lowdown on what the remedy is for rushing behinds?

I mean if you're a bit under the pump, you rush a behind (short handball), then collect the nut and kick out lightening fast to a quick breaking backman 60 out and you're up the other end of the ground in seconds.

Worse still you slam a rushed behind into the crowd and quickly collect one of the spare Sherrins and off you go. If that's legal and allowable, then struth, what a damaging joke that would be.

Is the above scenarios plausable or is that tactic going to be illegal? Anyone know?

Do these rules start being effective for the prac matches & NAB or only officially start round 1 of the season?

Will there be spare Sherrins? I didn't think they planned to introduce more game balls?

I hope not....I have a picture in my head of that basket of balls in the IR series.

I think worse. Although they do rely on leaping, they also do a lot of scragging against the bigger forwards.

They still have to wait for the 'all-clear' call though.

The geniuses at the AFL haven't considered the possibility of a defender taking the ball over the goal line, running back over the line and quickly passing to a defense that is spreading quicker than egg on Andy D's face. This is a wonderful innovation introducing a rugby league try element into the game. After running the ball over the gaol line the defender gets an uncontested kick. Can even see defenders passing to team mates behind the goals to rebound an attack. Terrific stuff

                    Scarey thought isn't it?

Rugby League and Rugby Union are games that are not really going to get any faster. Soccer is still loaded with 1 all draws. So why does AFL have to move at break neck pace when it' still the fastest game on the land?

Dan, Dan, you miss the point. It is too quick, supposedly. That's why they (Andy and his gang) want to slow it down. And we all know that the best way to slow the game down is to change the rules to speed it up.

All pretty logical and simple if you think about it.

The mooted no passing back rule is a ripper. Its an offside rule in reverse. Sort of a backside rule

Can you love AFL when you hate THE AFL?

The current regime seems to be beneficiary of past policies and a ridiculous war for TV rights. Even then, they prefer the cash over exposure in NSW and QLD.

                            Most certainly can.

I don't hate The AFL - most of what the Commission seems to be trying to do I have no problem with.

My beef is with Andy D and his side-kick. They seem to have no comprehension of their role in the game - ie as administrators, not the final arbiters of pretty much everything.

I agree with you liz, one day, hopefully, Demetriou will realise that the AFL isn't all about him.
