    Accuracy

    Suggestions for how we improve?

Incredibly frustrating tonight watching shots on goal. Swans continued with excellent inside 50 stats.

    Conversion remains poor.

I reckon the accuracy will come. I think the boys are still trying to get a bit of rust out of the old system and so the shots just aren't going through like they should be. I think tonight the most important thing was to just get a win however we could and we did that. Now time to start focussing on how to improve the accuracy because we ain't gonna beat West Coast with terrible kicking like we had toight.
    Go you mighty BLOODBOYS!

I really don't care about the accuracy, I think that if we can continue to kick over 100 points in games we will probably win the majority of them.

We had 32 scoring shots with an accuracy of 47%. If our accuracy was better the final score would be higher. 60% accuracy is achievable. A score of 20.12 (132) is so much better than 15.17 (107).

Our behinds tally included a few rushed behinds. So did Geelong's and they only had 7 behinds in total.

EDIT: Last week, inaccuracy cost us the game against Melbourne.

We had the same problem with acuracy this time last year. I think it'll be a focus at training this week, given Roos' post match comments.

i think it is still an issue of position rather than straightforward accuracy per se. on a number of occasions at the end i was sitting at, poor selection of options and skill errors meant that goal attempts were being made from unlikely positions.

we're still giving opposition backs too long to organise.
then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i know

Very true. It was wonderful to see McVeigh take the ball on HF last night and turn quickly and bang it in to Goodes one on one (which ended in a Goodes goal). We don't do that enough, although in all fairness to our midfielders a lot of them would not have been able to make that kick
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Sorry, guys, but I disagree with some of you who are saying that accuracy doesn't matter. Of course it matters. Lat night teh Swans kept teh Cats in the game because of their inaccuracy. The needed to work extra hard in the last quarter the set the win beyond reach. It's a menthal thing as well. Especially guys in teh midfield get really frustrated when they see their forwards squander so many opportunities like Mikey O (1.5?). Mikey should go back and train some kicking on goal thing.

Its a pattern with our team that will resolve itself as the season unfolds. As an example from last year:

                    Rnds 1 - 10: 107.130 (av. 11.13 per game)
                    Rnds 11-22: 180.122 (av. 15.10 per game)

As a consequence of inaccuracy we failed to reach 100 points, which would have won the game.

Of course accuracy is important. But it's more important that we're making opportunities to score.

If we have 32 scoring shots each week we'll get the kicking practice we obviously need.

It's also important that we convert opportunities through taking the best options. No point trying to snap speccies when that's not really your thing (e.g R O'K-OOF).

I am still sick in the stomach when I think of that Bazza Miss from right in front....guys that was pathetic. I stayed up when I got home to watch the replay still a little ticked off....we won ahh yes..but like you all are saying we lost the game last week...

just because we are in front on the scoreboard is no excuse for poor kicking...

also we all need to give a big hang to Craig Bolton for his 2 awesome goals...inspirational

What's ironic is that we so frequently hit that damn goal post. It's such a small target, how the hell do they hit it so often?
It's accuracy.. but the wrong target.
