General footy chat Finals Week 1

Can't see a thread by Deja, so here goes.

Port vs Geelong - I hear Tom Stewart is a late out. I am not sure who I prefer to in here. Port has beaten us consistently over a very long period. Geelong we got monstered by them in the 2022 Grand Final. Probably prefer Geelong.

Bulldogs vs Hawks - I think I prefer the Hawks, that Bulldogs height would cause us some problems.

Us vs GWS- so looking forward to it. Some unlucky player(s) to be omitted/not selected...

Brisbane vs Carlton - Lions should win this.

Oh, and interestingly, of the Channel 7 team, four out of 11 picked us to win the premiership, four picked GWS. There was one who picked Bulldogs, guess which person who has no insight about their personal biases? Yep, Luke Darcy!

Yes, since I've gotten out of the habit of kicking off these threads, it didn't even enter my head to do one today. Feel free to keep on going.

My biased views on who I want to win.

Port Adelaide - I want to avoid them in finals because the Swans haven't beaten them since 2016. Any result that makes it possible to avoid them would be desirable. We can beat Geelong, so go Geelong.

Bulldogs vs Hawks - we can beat Hawthorn but lost to the Bulldogs last time we played them. Hawthorn have been in good form since we beat them (by 74 points). Go Hawks, I guess.

Sydney vs GWS. Go Swans. I want a home preliminary final and an easier run to a Grand Final.

Brisbane vs Carlton. If we beat GWS, this game is the most irrelevant because we would have to wait for the Grand Final to meet one of these teams. I don't care who wins really, but we are more likely to beat Carlton. Trouble is, so are Brisbane.

Posting this during the second quarter of the Port-Cats final, and I like that Geelong are up by nine points.

I haven't watched much of Geelong this year, but I'm starting to see why Dempsey won the Rising Star.

They're really looking good. 33 points up and hard to see how Port are going to make that up. Long way to go but the Power doesn't seem to have any answers.

Hard to see Port getting back from here. It might be handy for us if they went out in straight sets.

Assuming Port lose (a safe assumption when they are down by 9 goals with a quarter to play), they would play the winner of Hawthorn and the Western Bulldogs. Given the form of those two teams, Port's exiting with two straight losses is a real possibility.

And on the Port bigfooty board, the genuinely rabid Sack Hinkley thread is now going into overdrive.

Yes, in that Sack Hinkley thread, someone said that Port have lost their last four finals by an average of 47 points. Happy times.

This has 2003 vs us final vibes. It’s so enjoyable.

Tonight, they've been outclassed by a team that showed much more heart. On tonight's form, they'd really struggle against the Hawks or the Poodles.

Seriously embarrassing for Port....every time the heat is on in finals, they recoil into the fetal position. Poor Ken!

It was such a bad performance by Port. Non functioning forward line, and a midfield that was just fraudulent. You could pause the game at any midfield contest and notice the Number of port players caught on the offensive side of the ball with the ball in dispute assuming that they will win the contest was insane. No wonder the Geelong players were just pushing the ball forward and obviously also winning more contests than port. Also no plan for plan B - just kept going through corridor.
I hope we give a better account of ourselves.

I'll keep my powder dry on the Port performance, too many parallels.

Cats know this time of year and they are big bodies all over the ground.

Port have a small defence and an inconsistent fwd line with an exceptional midfield. Sounds familiar

Dixon is way past being cooked, Marshall must have done what Parker did early in the year to not get played before that spud
