Swans chat Preliminary Final, Swans v Port, Fri 20 Sept 7.40pm SCG

As noted also by uuaswan in the Week 2 finals thread, Mills is out for the prelim. He has injured a calf at training. Would be heart-breaking for him if we went and own the grand final, like Bob Murphy in 2016 (though they shouldn't have won that final).

I'd bring Fox in as a defender, rather than Adams.

      Yep..
As to what sort of a loss he will be.. is open to conjecture. In my humble opinion he did not have a great game but we were all hoping he would get better. Looks like Adams comes straight in

Dear oh dear. Callum seems a bit prone to mishaps. He'd be devastated.

I'd also like to see Fox in. I think that intercept / third man up defender role is his best position. Not to be mean, but surely Francis is not an option.

The hard thing about replacing Mills is the level of guidance and direction and ball-winning he provides down back. He was crook on the weekend but his two games to end the home and away season were massive. He scoops up ground balls for a living.

My main reason for hoping it’s Fox is like Mills, he will be important in continuing to free up Blakey. And the alternative addition to the defensive group is Lloyd, who’s been average down back but excellent up on the wing this year

            Or maybe Fox .

            Official release from club:
Sydney Swans captain Callum Mills is unavailable for next Friday night’s Preliminary Final after sustaining a hamstring injury at training yesterday.

On AFL3O they mentioned it's normally a 21 day turnaround. Mills has 18 days to GF should we make it. Consensus is Longmire won't take risk with him after doing so with Reid in 2022

Need someone to play tall and small and Fox, Florent , McInerney fit the bill. But Fox is the only one I would have down there. Florent and Blakey together with their turnovers at times makes me nervous even though Florent does attack the ball and does have a good kick from back half. McInerney may be the other one who probably doesn’t stand up in the PF. He just looks underdone. if he doesn’t come up Taylor Adams comes in. i doubt they will take Cleary ahead of Adams but I like him better than Adams. I think he has the speed, the kick and can play forward and in midfield

Logically Hawks and its Fox, Port and its Adams but I think Adams will play sub and JMAC slides deep for Campbell on the Wing

Love Fox as a pure defender and as others have said it releasereturn runners

What a 'mare of a year for Mills The worst bit is what will we do if we win the Prelim and he is touch and go to make the grand final - every time we risk a player not fit, it hasn't ended nicely recently. Would be huge to leave him out of course, but gee its a massive risk.

                  I'd pick Fox.

It's unfortunate but we just can't play injured guys in finals. A 75% Mills could easily become a 0% Mills pretty quickly.

Mills was also rushed back for the 2016 GF with underwhelming results as well
He ate more cheese, than time allowed

Campbell in and Fox the sub- he’s versatile and deserves to be ahead of Adams. Campbell has earned his spot. Mills hasn’t done a lot lately so I’m not sure how much he will be missed. Hope JMac will be fully fit and Errol needs to shake his tag, though that might be easier said than done! Our talls need to do more- they need to step up big time!

Just an FYI: Todd Marshall has entered concussion protocols for them, so he won't be part of their side.
