Cox also stated he expected that Mills would be a mid from the season start.

If so, puts Sheldrick and Cleary back in the queue, and and makes a defensive step-up even more important

Detailed interview with Mark McVeigh and photos from the intraclub. Interesting notes on McCartin, Warner and Andrew. Worth a look: https://www.sydneyswans.com.au/news/1713852/mcveigh.

What I got out that the most is he obviously likes to use the word obviously.

A while back, I posted that with Cooper Vickery being delisted, I didn't think that we had an indigenous player on our list. A few weeks later, I noticed that Joel Hamling was listed as indigenous, but I neglected to correct the record. Since he's just been selected in the indigenous all-stars, I thought I might do that now.

Joel Hamling to join Indigenous All-Stars
Defender Joel Hamling will join the team for Saturday's Indigenous All-Stars clash at Optus Stadium.

Cleary banned for two weeks for trying to buy drugs, getting busted and not telling the club. My views on drugs are well known, but pretty dumb to think he could not tell the club

The not telling the club thing speaks volumes for his character. We all make mistakes not owning them is extremely disappointing and I am not sure if I was in the playing group I’d be happy about that ! 2 weeks is weak

At least the time frame suggests it occurred during the off-season. So, I suspect that he wasn't the only AFL footballer indulging in something other than alcohol. And maybe he was pissed at the time, and just got a little bit confused, when he recalled the coaches telling him that he needed to "rack up the possessions"?

Disappointing episode but still a very young guy who was probably frightened about telling the club. Time will tell if he learns from this.

Probably not too surprising but Hamling actually looks quite good as a defender

Playing on Treacey in a fwd line with Jackson and Amiss

And if he had bought the drugs and was randomly drug tested.....2 years. These kids are educated from 15yo by both the AFL and the Academy. He had been identified as an elite talent and the Academy has done everything to develop him as a player and person, and he does this which is more than a slap in the face to the club. He has the world at his feet and he does this. It seems a trend has started with Swans players doing dumb things and not telling the club. You would think he had learned from the Mills saga. The good thing is no other Swans players were involved. I would hope the people he was with have since disappeared from his life. Every chance he will get a decent sledging on the field. I can't imagine how Dean Cox feels.

The 2 weeks and a strike was imposed by the AFL, but I agree, that's a weak penalty. 19 years and he has a strike against his name. Wow. What we don't know is how this will affect him mentally.

Is anyone else really struggling to get behind the club for this year? I’m finding I’m still really embarrassed and humiliated to be associated with them. Not a nice feeling but I can’t seem to shake it.

just curious if that’s a common experience here more than anything.

I'm still affected but will still buy a membership. I'm gradually coming around. Change of coach and how he wants to get back to hard, more defensive footy, is helping. Mills gave a good speech last night. He's a big in this year I reckon.

I'm not feeling as strong as you, but also I'm also not feeling the usual passion and affection. I can't and won't watch any of the positive highlights from the year. The GWS final was the best live game I've seen (nudging out the 2022 Collingwood prelim), but I don't reflect on it positively now. I do feel let down.

I'm actually not sure whether it'll fully ramp up once they play. I think part of it is that I don't feel like abject performance has been fully acknowledged and owned by those responsible for it - the players and then coach.

                                We'll see.
