Dean deserves his own thread. I thought this address to the players was impressive and convincing. He seems up for it and ready. https://youtu.be/VCK0UMDuV6E?si=dkrHk7dnbqRvM6rq

Re: the Chad. Of course the club will do whatever it can to re-sign him but it will be up to him if he wants to stay. This is as it should be and I get the feeling it won’t be long before we know.Comment

Dean Cox was interviewed by Gary Lyon & Tim Watson on SEN breakfast yesterday. Gives insight with the GF review & the pre-season. Came across as a straight shooter in his first Melbourne media interview as senior coach.
The Interview (11min) can be selected from the attached SEN podcast menu:
Kane and Kingy paid tribute to Robert Walls in their 'Scramble' this morning, and after a quiz dedicated to the legendary figure, they had a quick 'Dig'. Next on their rundown was their review of Gold Coast vs Hawthorn, and some calls on the game was followed by a chat with Western Bulldogs star Ed Richards and 'In The Gun'. Carlton legend Stephen Kernahan called in to speak about Robert Walls, and 'The Friday Agenda' came before a news update with Channel 9 chief football reporter Tom Morris. Lastly, they took some 'Fireball Feedback'.Comment

I loved this interview. How candid he was that our defensive DNA had fallen away. Whilst on paper, our defensive numbers look good, I reckon our full ground defence was poor at times and when it broke down (GF day not being the only one; think the Bulldogs game later in the season) it really broke down badly.
As for the GF review, I'm convinced it was one giant, collective head case more than anything tactical. But who knows.Comment

Up on the club's website is a Dean Cox article from another SEN interview (Sydney) he did with Matt White yesterday.
Not as insightful as the Melbourne SEN interview he did a day earlier to avoid going over the same ground, but singled out Co Warney & Angus Sheldrick as most likely to crack into the seniors after having impressive pre-seasons thus far.
Also wants to increase from the 31 players that played seniors last year. Probable sign of managing players more and further debutants.

I also found it interesting, that he said it took 7 & 1/2 hours to review the grand final humiliation, with the first minute of the game taking an hour. It sounds like a lot of honest discussion took place. So hopefully, that will spur the team on to greater heights, rather than being a massive psychological burden, insisting that you're not really good enough when it matters most.Comment

Yes, Wilbur was one a while ago from memory, but he improved a lot over the last season. Was Ollie another? Otherwise I can’t think of any. The advantage of a new coach is that I’m sure he will give every player on our list a chance to show what he can do- we need to develop depth to cover for the inevitable injuries.Comment

Very impressed by his address to the players and his ladder of priorities : club first, team second and yourself last. Also, the importance of revisiting the GF in the cold light of day- learn from it and then move on. Now it’s over to our boys to see if they can do just that. I’m confident they will.
