Why do RWOers hate Luke Ablett?

I must admit to being a little confused by the attitude of many posters on here to Luke Ablett. Even after being named in the best players on Saturday night there have been calls by some on here for him to be dropped.

    Herald Sun best players

    The Age best players

What is it that RWOers don't like about Luke?

    I like Luke.

He was also named in the AAP best.

I don't. In fact I don't hate anyone that isn't a politician. I do find it a bit annoying however that Lukey continues to get pinged for holding the ball. He should have got his head around that rule by now. He's a good player not in great form atm, but he's got a few mates.

Thanks Tuesday, I forgot about that thread. I just got a bit ticked off when more here were wanting him to be axed, even though he was one of our best players on Saturday night.

I don't hate him - I don't know him. I'm just not enormously enamoured with him as a player.

He's underrated here. But he does get pinged an inordinate amount of times for holding the ball. Sometimes warranted, sometimes ridiculously. Maybe the umps have too many preconceived ideas on what particular players are likely to be guilty of rather than making a call on each play as it is.

That in itself is a problem, no umpire should make decisions on anything but what actually happens.

Leo Barry is a victim of this - the free to Tarrant when Leo was chasing on a hard lead and Tarrant ran under the ball was a joke. If that happens to Barry Hall it's play on.

...or a free kick against him for holding on to the defender.

And i dont hate luke. i quite like him. when i read on RWO that people wanted him dropped it was a bit shocking to me really, when he is probably one of the more consistent players in our team. and yes he may give free kicks away, but what else in sydney is new?

Luke does sometimes correctly get pinged for HTB but he also seems to get an amazingly high number of very "hot" HTB decisions against him. I haven't watched a replay of the game (and don't intend to) but from the stand the one against him on Saturday looked ridiculous.

For the one that Leo gave away against Tarrant when Tarrant was on the lead I think the umpire signalled that Leo chopped Tarrant's arms in the contest. On the replay that they put on the screen during the game it looked as if Leo was trying to contest the mark and made some marginal contact to Tarrant's arms but not to the extent it made him drop the mark. The mark was already gone by then.

This chopping the arm rule is one I hate because a) sometimes players get pinged for incidental contact and b) it is yet another rule so inconsistently applied. If a player would have taken the mark but for the chopping of the arms, fair enough, but sometimes it seems that the rule makers want to make it impossible for defenders to defend.

There is a very clear law (interpretation) which says that a player tackled without prior opportunity MUST DO EVERYTHING HE CAN TO DISPOSE OF THE BALL.

Somehow Luke has not read this. He regularly gets tackled and thenm lies there. Probably five times this year a lone.

Anyway I haven't seen too many suggesting he be dropped this week, although some (myself included) have noted that his disposal has been poor for weeks and was nothing short of disgraceful on saturday night.

Who is in the best is, unfortunately, not a very good guide as we have seen many times over the years that the journalists in question only look at the disposal stats when padding out the numbers beyond best on ground. Someone else had Fosdike in the best....he would have turned over the ball 7 or 8 times....many of those when totally in the clear. Is it too late for Cliff to make an edit?

I thought the whole team was a shambles, the way they are playing the wont go any where near btb.The only shinning light was the last quarter they nealy got em.
Now this is a thread that i would expect on the ego -centric, wank session that is redandwhiteonline.com...

Granted. He needs to learn the caught-chook-flap thing.

But at the same time he also gets pinged when no prior opportunity & the tackler(s) just pile on top of him & sometimes tacklers even pull the ball back in to him themselves. I'm constantly amazed at how the crowd can see this from 100 meters away & yet it's still paid.
