    Swans Reserves

I hope I am not re-opening something already mentioned elsewhere, but did anyone see the Reserves game or hear the result?

Would be interested to see/hear how the guys who were dropped or others such as Doyle and Willoughby went

And also the Sydney vs ACT representative match...who won that...I am interested in the talent difference between those two comps

ted richards was superb is ressies , kicked about 4 or 5 alone in the last term , albeit against a lower level as they split the ressies and development squads in half so effectively their where two teams mixed together . This made it hard to identify some players however ben matthews didnt stand out as much as i thought he would.

Richards played well when we beat weaker sides by big margins.

His willingness to find the "hard" footy against StKilda and Collingwood was, to be kind to him, very questionable indeed.

Too Right Nico - "super ted" aint so super when the going gets

tough. To me he is a "down hill skier"

He needs to bend his back "get his head over the ball", get his

hands dirty. keep his eyes on the ball and don't look at the

opposition or hear their footsteps. He has enough natural skill

and ability, but sadly lacks ticker

Who else played well in this practice match? By the way should our magoos be playing in a comp as weak as Canberra?

No, I believe they should be in the VFL, playing every second game in Sydney as curtain raisers to the Swans seniors matches. That's what I think anyway, I know there are others who disagree.

Much better off playing in the infinitely stronger Sydney comp.

                  No way in hell.
As mentioned the VFL path is what is needed for the reserves IMHO.

Thanks Glenn, I usually get bagged for mentioning it.

                      Are you serious??!

I think the suggestion that some Canberra and Sydney sides merge to form an 'elite' 6 or 8 team competition has merit.

I am with the coaches however and think it's far better for our guys to be playing in a Swans team and adopting the same gameplans, playing in positions as determined by our coaches, rather than in a VFL team where they could be played well out of position.

But as we are already running a full reserves team, there is no need for this to happen. We could simply have a full Sydney Swans reserve team playing as a stand alone team in the VFL.

But surely this has been considered in the past and rejected as too expensive.

                          Has that changed somehow?

Has it? I really don't know if it has been or not. But cost really shouldn't be a factor if we really want to develop the depth that we need to be a continual powerhouse in the AFL.
