    Adam Goodes my hero

    Not for any footy skills but for the fact that he didn't care what happened to the game he went straight to Brett Kirk when he was knocked unconscious and was looking after him until the trainers and doctor came.

    What was the name of that famous runner who stopped to help a mate? It had that ethos about it.


    I don't care if you think I'm gushy...those are the things that are really important in life. A medal sits in a cuboard...a friend is for life.

      May be im soft but i thought it was great.

          Did you notice that Baz was the other one who wouldn't leave Brett's side - and he and Goodes were both looking really concerned?

          On the other hand, I was really taken by Shane Tuck's reaction, too. He looked like he had to be consoled by his team mates - no smiles, just a "what have I done?" look of concern.

          And finally, it was very gratifying to see that as soon as the final siren went, Tuck went straight across to Brett and said something (presumably "sorry") and Kirk gave him a big smile and put his arm around his shoulder. Only then did Tuck laugh as he jogged away.

          Sickening to see Kirk go down like that - or anyone - but the reaction from all the players concerned was heart warming. So was the crowd's standing ovation as he was carried off - and when he walked back on.

          As I posted elsewhere, I spoke to Brett as we left the SCG and he said that he'd probably skip watching that bit of the replay. I thought it was sportsmanship all round. Great to see.

              I actually think someone needs to come and talk to him about lifting up people who may have a neck injury.
              I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
              We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

                      Fingers crossed he goes well in the Brownlow... Such a great player to watch and appears to be a fantastic bloke as well.

                          Whined to the umps all night so unlikely to scored many votes there.

                          In a similar incident, when Koschitzke collided with the ump, players come from both teams from everywhere to check on him and then one player thought to check the ump. Funny as. Except for the ump.

                                  What gets me about the whole thing was the TV coverage of it. After a couple of replays, one of the commentators says something along the lines of "sickening to watch". And then they show 4 or 5 more replays from different angles.

                                  We know he's out cold, we know it looked bad or "sickening" how they aptly described it, why keep showing it??

                                  I am not too sure about Kirky's family status, but what if he has a young kid at home watching their Dad on TV. If its not bad enough that he's lying prone on the deck, they get to see it over and over and over how he got kicked in the gob!!

                                  Fair enough, one or two replays cos, I admit, didnt see what happened but once you realise its pretty bad is there a need to keep showing it??

                                      Having a great season on and off the field, does some great radio interviews on the melbourne sports talk network SEN about his off field roles as well. I just wish Roos would use him as our second ruckman, at least around the ground.

                                                          As for Goodes, I think it was genuine concern, as Kirk went down like a sack of potatoes. And the fact he wasn't moving., they know how tough Kirk is from previous incidents, where he has bounced back up rather than just bounced.

                                                          And yes Stella, I think Goodes should do a First Aid course, before he intervenes in a another such incident.
