1 v 5
2 v 6
3 v 7
4 v 8
The last time finals were similar to that was back in 98 when Adelaide won the flag from fifth,what are your thoughts people.?Can that work?

That's crazy! What's the benefit in finishing 1st when you play a stronger team than the team that finished 8th?

The old system was 1v8, 2v7, 3v6, 4v5 and gave Adelaide a 2nd chance after finishing 5th even though they were belted in week 1 of the finals.

I much prefer the current system.

Strongly agree with you there. The top 4 deserve the double chance, not the top 2. In 1998, Sydney finished 3rd on the ladder. Under the current finals system we would have made the prelims without any drama. But, under the old system we won the first game, had to play the next week, lost to Adelaide and ended up 6th. The top 4 have the double chance for a reason, because they're the most likely teams to win the premiership...

My preferred system is

WEEK 1
Game A 1v3
Game B 2v4
Game C 5v7
Game D 4v6

WEEK 2
Game E Loser A v Winner C
Game F Loser B v Winner D

WEEK 3
PF 1 Winner A v Winner E
PF 2 Winner B v Winner F

WEEK 4
GF Winner PF1 v Winner PF 2

In this scenario Teams finishing 1 & 2 on the ladder can only meet in the GF, thus eliminating the possibility of them playing in a PF as happened last year. It also gives the top 4 teams a double chance.

Poor team 4, having to play twice in the one week

Actually gs14, I believe the reason why that happened is the league prefers not to have the same teams play the PF as the QFs.

The current system is actually pretty good, I reckon.

The biggest obvious change is in the first week of finals. Each team knows EXACTLY what is at stake when they start their match.

Top 4 - Win, and you get a home prelim. Lose, and you get a home semi.
Bottom 4 - Win, and you get an away semi. Lose, and you get knocked out.

Your destiny is essentially in your own hands. Much better than:

1-2 - Win, and you get a home prelim. Lose, and you get a home semi.
3 - Win, and you get a home prelim if one of 1/2 lose, otherwise you get a home semi. Lose, and get a home semi.
4 - Win, and you get a home prelim if both of 1/2 lose, otherwise you get a home semi. Lose, and get a home semi.
5 - Win, and you progress to a home prelim if 1/2/3 lose, otherwise you get a home semi. Lose, and you get knocked out if 2 or more of 6/7/8 win, otherwise you get an away semi.
6 - Win, and you progress to a home prelim if 1/2/4 lose, otherwise you get a home semi. Lose, and you get knocked out if 2 or more of 7/8 win, otherwise you get an away semi.
7 - Win, and you progress to a home semi. Lose, and you get knocked out.
8 - Win, and you progress to a home semi. Lose, and you get knocked out.

As you can see, I prefer the current system.....

I like th current system as you can get any combination of top 4 teams in the GF if they are good enough, due to cross over at semi finals.

I would also like to see the introduction of a bottom 8 finals series, set up pretty much the same way, except that it is the losers that have to play the following week, the team losing on the last day of September taking home a wooden spoon. Sort of an anti-grand final. I think it would be great.

Or the winners continue with the prize being the No.1 draft pick.
