    The perfect team goal?

Jenny McAsey makes the case (with help from a handful of players). For me it has some stiff competition from the second Davis goal in last year's semi but it was pretty damn fine, that's for sure.

Good to see Davis is toeing the line.

Davis, scalded for talking to the media this year, wouldn't be interviewed but in an email said..."

Outstanding article-- with all of the thousands of words wasted on cliched, unresearched football journalism every week, why isn't there more of this stuff?

Anyway, not to take away from what was a terrific team movement by a bunch of blokes who must have been buggered, but it certainly wasn't the perfect team goal. What was the difference between it being a goal and just an unsuccessful forward 50 thrust? Drew Banfield's fist.

Banfield fisted that ball strongly and cleanly, and it could have gone anywhere. As it was, it went straight towards our goal, quickly but not so quickly as to cross the line before MOL got there. Fantastic, and after the clever and gutsy transfer from deep in defence, well-deserved. But still lucky.

Let's hope there is a similar article in 2 weeks time.

How lucky was the bounce though. It just popped right up in front of him. He almost took the ball at full stretch to bring it down.

Yeh good article but clearly underplays Davis' crucial contribution.

I thought it was Ablett that fisted the ball originally? But then I could also have sworn that it was Schneider that was contesting that final mark with Banfield, so I guess I could have that wrong.

We have to go on with it now. If only so I have to buy the DVD of the final series to replay that goal over & over.

I remember thinking at the time how well Monty did to make some space in a very tight situation. It's that little bit of Amon's readiness to take 'em on that can (and often does) make the difference.

A terrific read - my neck hair stood up!
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Big Jolls fisted it to the boundary line, then fortunately it NOG gathered the ball before it went over and so came the chain that lead to the winning goal.

Reminds me of the desperate tap from NOG that kept the ball in play in the dying seconds of last year's SF. It's the little things that count.
