Just wondering, in Jarrad's 300th game, will any of the Channel 7 commentators, manage to mistakenly call him, Mark McVeigh.

Youse seriously pulled out a thread from 10 years ago?
      Am I reading that right?

I've bagged McHack more than anyone here (in his younger years, hence the name McHack).

Now... I'M SO HAPPY HE'S STAYING ANOTHER YEAR.

I'm going to really miss him when he eventually goes.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

Mcveigh's career has had three distinct periods:
Pre 2011. The mchack years. Ordinary skills, soft as butter.
        2011-2013. The good years.
2013+ The Pointy years. Back to hackness except in certain unique circumstances.

Sure, he's strung a few good games together in the past month, but was characteristically quiet in the final last week.

But credit where credit is due. 250 games is a good achievement. The other 50 where he selected himself... Well, should they count?
Won a best and fairest pre 2011 as I recall. 2008?

It's a bit silly to apply retrospective comments to 10 year old threads. Shall we dig up a list of people who loved Jesse White, or thought the Mitch Morton recruitment was in error.?

You call it as you see it at the time.

I didn't revive this thread to embarrass anybody. Any of us who have ever written a player off (Towers anybody?) could be proven wrong by later events. However it is not only amusing to review what was said 10 years ago but also illuminating to contemplate how much things can change and to bear this in mind when discussing players now. Whether it's Towers or, as liz has pointed out, Aliir, it pays to be a bit circumspect when evaluating others and also to have faith that the club knows what it is doing and gets most calls right. Also, I think it is a great opportunity to turn around the brickbats that Macca copped in this thread in 2007 and turn them into bouquets now on the eve of his 300th game and an undeniably successful career, just as he has turned his career around.

I'd love to know how you found a 10 year old thread. I can't seem to find anything older than a month.

I just noticed Stevie J is trying to get selected for his 284th game or something.
Funny how life works out. Stevie is the better player but McVeigh will end up as a 300 game, one club premiership player.
Historians will judge him kinder than the RWO archives.

Nice point. What's gratifying is that, in all of your examples, we were winners! We may have blotted our copybook in some instances (letting Longmire and Carey go for a pittance may have been hasty perhaps) but we have a pretty good track record.

Actually in previous years he was capable of making a few mistakes and kicking the ball straight to an opposition player. But this year he has been amazing, hardly put a foot wrong!!

Your comments analysing his career, especially pre 2011 are hardly retrospective and totally inaccurate considering most improved 2007 and B&F 2008.

Rubbish. I defined his career in its three clear phases. Individual up and down years is just noise.
