Eastlake football manager: "Swans past their use-by date"

The Sydney Swans reserves' future in the AFL Canberra league is still undecided, but Eastlake football manager Keith Miller believes their time is up. The Swans' three-year whitewash has raised concerns from Canberra clubs and Miller believes the time has come for AFL Canberra to revert back to an ACT-based competition.

    ...

"To have the Swans, it was a terrific thing to have in the league, but I think they are probably past their use-by date."
    The Queanbeyan coach sniffled:

"...we just haven't got that extra $100,000 in our budget to get the personnel to be able to beat them."
    The Tuggeranong coach suggested:

"Given that I think the only real way to overcome the problem is if they don't play for premiership points."
Which is an interesting idea I hadn't heard before.

And those comments about us 'being good for the comp' were based on several articles which have appeared in sources such as the competitions 'footy record' where opposition coaches have said that playing the Swans has been positive, with a variety of reasons given e.g. it gives the players the opportunity to test themselves against better opposition etc

Different clubs will have different opinions and even the same clubs will have differing opinions at different times - they will say one thing while the Swans are in the Comp...and now that it seems we are leaving they will change their views...its called SPIN, i.e. putting forward a positive view based on the circumstances that exist at a particular time

So the old saying "a rising tide lifts all ships" no longer applies?

Which is what they did in the Sydney AFL IIRC.
If that was to be the case, the Swans would be better off playing here.

              Whinge!

They were crap for years, and then the Swans decided to recruit real talent from around the country.

And now they are a threat to the ACTAFL!

              Please.

If it wasn't for the Swans, the ACTAFL would have had one tenth of the spectators turn up! You cant have your cake and eat it too.

We need to get into the best second tier competition which is clearly the VFL. With our need to rebuild and develop new talent it is essential.

course then I could see the side play every second week too !!
