Tassie before new Gold Coast/NSW team...

While I am not against an expansion of the AFL surely Tasmania would be a better fit for an AFL club? Aurora Stadium can be modified more to get more fans in, the South can house a ground there's a nice block of land where the Showgrounds stands as that was going to be made a ground anyway.

What I mean is, in 1996 the Glenorchy City Council, had an idea to build a ground at the Showgrounds and moving the racing from there to the Elwick Race Course. Which now the races have all moved to the Race Course, and the Showgrounds isn't used as often as it once was.

A Tassie AFl side may be the thing to save Tasmanian football as there has been a problem here for over a decade. What are your thoughts on this? Now I know something will need to be done to get the North and South to agree on what is to be done but I think a Tassie AFL side could be the start of something good.

As much as I would like to see it, there is probably not the population (plus the north south divide) or the money in sponsorship for a team to survive in Tassie.

Tasmania should have their own team.

That was a mistake, the timekeeper took it home for the week and forgot it.

Why? What reasoning do you have?

We're suffering through Hawthorn, and St. Kilda before them surely after that we deserve something?

The same could be said for Sydney (North), Canberra (North, Melbourne, Footscray) and the Gold Coast (North).

What i don't understand is, why is the AFL so adamant in introducing a 2nd Sydney team yet still refuse to play matches in prime time (having RL on is no longer a valid excuse) making AFL fans up north stay up late to catch a game?

And if the AFL says it doesn't rate..then where the f are they getting their market research from that has convinced them to introduce a new team. Surely having blockbuster games not rating in prime time is an indication that Sydney is not ready for a 2nd team?

I wonder everyday about the @@@@s running the AFL at the moment. Too much money and too much of A mates club atm, as evident in this whole carltank fiasco while hanging out Paul Roos to dry.

I have to agree with the original sentiment. When I heard the club presidents agreed to the 18 team comp, my reaction was Gold Coast and Tassie.

But of course its about TV ratings and $, not what makes the most sense.

                    I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

You made a statement with no supporting facts. I just wondered what you based the statement on.

Well, I've said it on numerous occasions - there should be teams in Darwin and Tasmania (Launceston).

There's enough interest in the state and territory; and it would make it a true "national" competition.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

Thats what the AFL is all about these days. So Tasmania, no matter how much support they would have, would not attract the corporate $$$$ so Fat Andy can increase his salary each year.
