Team for Lions game (unchanged team named)

It would be hard to see many changes from last weeks cracking win, but Goodes may be forced on us.

The only question in my mind is, do we need LRT down back to counter Johnathon Brown ? - Normally Craig Bolton does the job, but with all these anti-defender rules, his jobs is getting harder and harder. Do we need our regular tall defender (LRT) back to do the job, and if so, who would share the ruck ?

Ruck options would seem to be to let Jolly ruck 90% of the game, with someone like Ted Richards helping out a bit. Against Brisbane's ruck division that would leave us very exposed IMO. The other alternative it to promote a young White type player. Again very risky, but at least Brisbane's 2nd ruckman is similarly inexperienced and raw.

In reality I think we'll stick with LRT as 2nd ruck, and hope between bolts, Barry and Teddy we can hold Brown and Brawshaw.

The obvious replacement for Goodes is Davis, but who knows what penalty he is serving, or how he is viewed ?

With Jolly likely to play but under an injury cloud, we'll need all the talls we can get.

Being a Southport boy it would set the scene for a a bit of a fairy tale debut for White.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Don't really know what's going on with Davis, as his dropping seemed bizarre in the first place - and I don't buy the 'team balance' drivel.

I'd be going Davis in for Goodes, but I wouldn't be surprised if that doesn't happen. Otherwise Jesse White, given that we're going to be short against Brisbane. I just hope they don't fall for Mathews!

There was an article in last weeks papers (can't find it) that stated the coaches weren't happy with his defensive pressure. He apparently did not chase hard enough or put enough pressure on the Saints defenders. He'll be back once he can demonstrate that he isn't just about all out attack, but follows the team ethos.

Even though I think Davo should be in the team ahead of Grundy, we need some more height, especially with Jolly under an injury cloud, so Grundy stays for now.
White should therefore replace Goodes, he can play forward as well as back up ruckmen. And as someone else said, he's from Queensland....The stars seem to be aligning for him.
Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MT

The stars have decided to go their own way...Goodes cleared....sorry Mr White no cigar this week.

DAvis was dropped because of a poor tacking effort - he has to fight his way back to the team again - he is not a good replacement for goods as he lacks height

Do yourself a favour and watch a replay of the game, because that is completely incorrect. I saw Davis chase on numerous occasions against St.Kilda.

There is something deeper that none of us know about.

One of the alpha dogs of the list roomed with a younger player at the AIS once, when the younger player was touted as the most skillful junior in the land and the now alpha dog was a bush footballer hoping to get on a list.

                      I seriously doubt that.

I've heard recently that it was about defensive pressure, not personalities. I believe this source, but from what I've seen watching the games that still seems a little harsh to me. Nevertheless, Davis needs to work harder at getting the ball and laying a few tackles - then any perception of being casual won't matter.

Swan Davis faces battle to return - realfooty.com.au

"Roos said the key forward must work on his tackling and pressure to fight his way back into the team."

(This was in the Davis thread I think).

What a load of tripe. Paul Bevan needs to do more work on his game than anyone else in the AFL yet he is picked every week.
