    Mattner

    Sorry, but i'm not convinced.

OK (just) when in possession but dreadful defensively. Also got a question mark on his ticker after seeing him "dog" a few hard ball contests.

It was his first bad game in a good season he has had to date. Don't write him off just that. He was trying to give us run from the back line in the 4th quarter though.

I'm not convinc4ed Mattner was a wise buy...I appreciate the intention to give more run off the half back line but, seriously this time, I'm not convinced of his abilities to pick the better option, his tackling or his kicking... but there again I didn't think the barometer was all that great a catch either...
"Davis...Davis has kicked 2...he snaps from 40...dont tell me, dont tell me, hes kicked a goal....unbelievable stuff from Nick Davis, can you believe this, he's kicked 3 final quarter goals and Swans are within 3 points..."

        Difference between Mattner and Leo?

Leo runs in cricles and gets tackled.
Mattner runs in straight lines and gets tackled.

I think he's trying hard, but needs to get rid of it a touch earlier.

As I've said a number of times before, I don't think he's a defender. I think he's a winger. Would be really valuable for us getting the ball in midfield, running in straight lines (he turns like an oil tanker) and delivering the ball long into the forward line.

Will be better when the Eski comes back. Mattner to wing, Eski back to HBF.

I think that was originally the plan, until Malceski hurt his knee.

                Pretty positive comment.

Shouldn't be that hard to instigate.

Just needs a bit more awareness. But then so could a few of them.

I didn't see the game today but he was pretty good last week.

he's going to be more then a decent pickup for us imo. Wasnt so good today but I also dont think he's a great defender by a long stretch and I do feel we will see the best of him if he gets the chance to play with Malceski on the same park. Certainly manages to run himself into trouble a bit at times but I dont think he was too bad today. Certainly we have more pressing issues in team selection to worry about then him.

That's exactly what a Crows supporter friend said when we recruited MM. A scary defect for a defender.

I thought he gave it a dip today, on an afternoon when our normally rebounding defence was static and unadventurous (B2 and Kennelly in particular). He made lots of mistakes but at least some of them were when trying to create something positive.

I have no idea what his defensive efforts were like. Our whole defence was uncharacteristically shambolic. It's rare that they give up so much time and space to opposition forwards. It was hard to know who was the worst down there, defensively.

He tried hard but it was like he had caught the bug off Benny AND Leo when he had the ball.
As a defender he gave away way to much space to his numerous opponents, not that he was Robinson Crusoe there as Liz pointed out.
