The coach is approaching the crossroads - Real Footy

Real Footy, Australia - 6 hours ago
IN COMING months, most likely during the next bye in late June, the Sydney Swans will begin to address the most important on-field issue in the club's ...

Richard Hinds may think it's the biggest issue at the Swans but it certainly isn't burning up the RWO boards!

Is it because we expect Longmire to step up anyway? Or ,we couldn't care who the coach is, as long as Benny Matthews never plays again? Or relief that it won't be Lyons?

Could be interesting scenario at end of 2009 if Roos finishes up and Kirk, Hall, Mickey O, and Barry retire.

What's new? We all know John Longmire will be the new coach soon enough. Tell us something we don't know.

im more worried about replacing the older players than who coaches the team. I would however like to see a decent coaching search should roosy leave and not just john longmire jumping into his slippers.

A move to the boundary line this season has prompted speculation that Roos had reached a "Kirribilli agreement" with assistant John Longmire

That agreement didn't eventuate from memory. I thought Roos going to the boundary was a hand over move.

I think what will happen, Roos next season will become the managing coach and Longmire will take over. Similar to what David Parkin did at Hawthorn?

At the moment, Roos can't work the match ups from the boundary.

            Shall be interesting.

I know I am not the only one on RWO who thinks appointing Longmire is not necessarily a good thing. He was found out terribly as a midfield coach and there are few Swans fans who wouldn't want to see a more attacking game plan, which means bringing in a coach from the outside.

Harvey, Bailey and Lyon have all hardly set the world alight since stepping up to a senior role from long stints as assistants either.

The club would be derilict in its duty if it didn't cast the net wider for the best possible candidate.

I'm with you on this one Hammo. I don't want Longmire as coach unless he is the best candidate for the job. To just give it to him could be disasterous.

Roos is contracted for another year so the question is purely hypothetical.

Whose to say Bomber Thompson or Mark Williams won't be wanting a fresh challenge at the end of next year?

We do have a potentially outstanding coach in the ranks. Step forward Stewie Maxfield.

I heard that Roosey will "step down" next year and give Horse the reins.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Michael Voss and Nathan Buckley will be 10 times better coaches than Longmire ever will be.
