    Did McVeigh have a N.Brown/B.Harvey/B.Rawlings moment ??

I didn't want to post this until I saw the replay and confirmed my suspicions, but having just watched the final 2 minutes, my first thoughts, which almost sent a glass at the TV screen in my works lunch room TV, were confirmed.

6 points in front, 1 min 29 secs on the clock and McVeigh received a handball from Playfair 3 steps from the behind post.

He could have toe poked it, handballed it, could even have just ran thru and rushed it for a behind, but elected to kick a ball back over his head for MOL to try and take a contested mark.

With the game in that position, why not just take the behind?

It appears a no-brainer to me.

Does anybody think maybe McVeigh was unaware of the score or do they think he did the right thing anyway to go for the goal?

I am glad it's not just me who was thinking that. I was mentally screaming at him during the game just to rush it through. From the angle I was at (behind the opposite behind post) I couldn't quite see how far away he was. But watching the replay on TV you can see that rushing it through was clearly a feasible option. In the end it turned out OK and he even got the chance to seal the win himself. So I guess it's hard to be too critical.

I actually thought MO'L was more to blame....

IIRC, he was the one that had plenty of oppurtunity to rush it through.... IIRC that is...

        I don't think YRC.

This piece of play was after Kizza kicks long, MOL wrestles with his opponent, it goes over their heads. MOL then scraps, knocks the ball to Playfair who handballs to McVeigh. He may have had opportunities in another piece of play, but not this one.

I was SCREAMING at him to just run over the line. He got the goal anyway, I guess, after a little more chaos. Maybe he just has more faith in himself than we do

Hard one to judge, yes it would have meant Port needed to score twice to win, but countering that McVeigh would not have known how much time was left and he would have been handing the ball back to Port to set-up a kick in.

Based on that I would prefer he tries for the goal so at least we can't lose and doesn't give them the ball back with a 7 point margin.

I forgot about that - it was bizarre. It was a pretty hectic passage of play IIRC. Good job we did score again - if they'd equalised there would be blood on his nice shoes at the next Trivia Night after Annie had finished with him.

And where else would he stick it up yous?
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

SEN mentioned that at the time. I didn't know who they were talking about, but they said any score would have been a plus at that point in the game.

                          Draw or win decision...

Agree that a point would have been good, I hope that he thought that a goal was a better decision. (Pass to MOL and Goal) We can all hope that he was aware that there was 2+ minutes left in the game and had a cool head??? Going for goal / gold!

                          All subjective, WE WON!

at the time , i thought it was bizarre that he didnt rush it or attempt to score himself.
i can only think he wasnt aware of the score

I would have like to have seen a screaming rugby style try. The publicity it would have got, would help our game make bigger inroads into NRL heartland.
