    Spida snippets

There were a couple of comments from Spida in his regular Monday night FSN spot that I thought might interest those who didn't see it.

At 3/4 time on Saturday, it was Kennelly who jumped in to do the team huddle talk. Apparently he was convinced the game was there for the taking.

Spida was so impressed by Kruezer's game against Port that he's going to sit down with the Swans "two young ruckmen" during the week and go through it with them. (Presumably he's referring to Currie and Orreal - though you'd think he might as well get White and maybe even Murphy in on it too. Even if they don't play in the ruck much in their careers, as ultra mobile bigmen I'm sure they'd get the benefit too.)

Spida himself has a tight hamstring and needs to get through training on Thursday. He didn't indicate he was in doubt verbally but I suspect by his demeanour when he said it that he might be in some doubt.

Really pleased to see this. Useful as he has been on the field, his mentoring could be even more valuable. I hope we can keep him on board in this capacity somehow.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

How do you watch Spida AND OTC at the same time? you really are remarkable..

Actually I did catch Spida's comments re Kreuzer & the Swans kids and was similarly delighted that this was seen as part of his jurisdiction.

It is good to see Spida doing some work for the Swans off the field as well. He is not the player he once was, which is completely understandable, given his age. He is still in our best 22, but not convincingly, and I had serious doubts after his first few games this year. I would be very, very surprised if he kept playing next year, which is why I'm very glad to see him taking the time he has to help the next generation of ruckmen at the Swans. I actually hope he sticks around in a non-playing role at the Swans next year. I know this is only his second season at the Swans, but I do get a sense there is a genuine attachment to the Swans for him. We probably extended his career an extra year or two, and he has become a bit of a cult hero here. He's a character, and seems like a good bloke, and a leader. I would very much like the Swans to retain his services to some extent.

Ah, so yeah, I kinda went off on a tangent there, but back to the point, good on him for taking a genuine leadership role and helping the guys that will eventually knock him out of our best 22, if he doesn't retire first. It's like what Benny Matthews has done. It's putting the team first, so it's a credit to him.
Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!

And wasn't he even more pumped than usual with the win. He seemed to be bouncing out of his skin at the end.

The big question is, are these young ruckman going to be asked to step into Spiders shoe's in 2009 raw as all hell, or will we try and draft a replacement.

We might find out this week if Spider misses the game. If these guys are expected to ruck in 2009, they would need to get some senior experience this year.....this week.

Foxtel IQ - the only way to go. Replay live TV is fantastic and able to record two things at once. Not remarkable - its magic

Tadhg turned up to the post match function and was STILL pumped, punching the air!!

....or might also have something to do with the young lasses who were getting him to autograph their stomachs???
I might have a slight drinking problem. My husband asked me to toast some bread for him...so I raised my wine glass and said "Here's to bread!"
