He hasn't come on at all in the last 2 years. Very disspointing indeed. Shouldn't be in the side IMO.

At his best, is well within our best 22, and does his job. Out of form, probably needs a spell in the reserves, and a long chat with some of his fellow players, in order to get his confidence back. No way should we trade him, unless we can get a 2nd round pick for him. I would find that hard to turn down. Perhaps Carlton, who sort of need a tagger and a big tough body, especially one with finals experience, and who have plenty of young players (and as such could afford to give up a 2nd rounder), would be interested. Merely speculation though. I don't think we should trade Ablett unless we genuinely think his career will flourish elsewhere anyway. He has given too much to this club to be thrown out like so much meat.Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!Comment

Football is all about putting the best 22 from your list on the park. Unfortunately, atm, Luke Ablett is not in that best 22. Mind you, he 's not alone in being selected and not in the best 22 we could possibly field on any given weekend.Comment

Kick it to meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
Same old. Same old.Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

He actually played forward pocket for some time last night. He has not the speed of foot or mind to be a crumbing forward. He played behind and gave away a ludicrous free playing behind a pack of 5 and pushed a player in the back when he was never in the contest. He didn't have the presence of mind to wait at the back of the pack for the spill. For mine his kick out on the full was the genuine highlight of his game he was that bad.
either way he is safe at the swans they wont delist himTheres not much left to sayComment

In his warm ups he hooks all of his practice shots for goal and 9/10 he'll do the same in a real game situation.Official Driver Of The "Who Gives A @@@@ As The Player Will Get Delisted Anyway" Bandwagon.

Sorry swansrule but i highly disagree with you about him being a decent shot for goal. He is a DIABOLICAL set shot for goal. Probably on par with Brennan. Heck i'd back LRT from a slight angle 40 metres from goal then NOG.

Hold the phone. Are you saying he DOES practice then?Comment

But i meant it would take a lot of work was just throwing up options rather than arguing it was what should happen.
I just want to see some change in his role so he can contribute to the sideTheres not much left to sayComment

NOG's problem is that after threatening for several years to become a good player, he has just not come on. There is no aspect of his game that you would describe as a strength. He has a powerful kick but seldom kicks to advantage. He is strong but falls over too often. He has stamina, but too often, his opponent runs off him.
If he is going to be retained on the list, he needs to work harder on his game and improve all aspects by at least 10%. Keeping his feet is the best place to start.
Nearly certain to be dropped this week, and maybe for the rest of the season, which is not that long anyway.Last edited by Ludwig; 19 August 2008, 06:49 PM.Comment

Not terribly likely to be tradeable (and certainly not tradeable to Geelong-- we might as well try to sell them Playfair), so for NOG it's a question of 'keep or dump?'
With the noises that Roos is making about bringing back Vespa and Jack, NOG isn't likely to play this week. Which will probably mean that barring further injury to others he won't play for us again in 2008.
He will probably be kept, but one of those that we should probably make the tough call on. Particularly if the powers-that-be are bullish enough about Smith and O'Dwyer's prospects to promote them to the senior list.Comment

In his defence, he is out of form, and so is about half the team.
But he's diabolically slow for a midfielder. With B1 and Kirkie already in the midfield, someone has to make way for legspeed.
THe cliche is that theoretically everyone's tradebait. In NOG's case it's probably more than theoretical. The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible newsComment
