    Number 4 - 2009

    Discussion - with number 4 being vacant again, and having had a fairly illustrious career, who should be given this number?

    Not Shaw, not appropriate.

    Vespa?

    It would be good to see it on a promising FF or CHF. @@@@, we don't have either.

      4 = Currie for me

      Others:

      2 = Shaw
      7 = #1 Pick in draft
      10 = Smith
      23 = O'Dwyer
      27 = #2 Pick in draft
      35 = #3 Pick in draft (if this pick is Thornton, keep #27)

          Does it really matter? Are we going down the path of venerating numbers such that only the great leader gets to wear 14 or the power forward gets to wear 4?

                    Don't we retire Premiership numbers for a year anyway?

                      The Bevanator. Undoubtedly deserves a low number befitting a stellar season and his ranking as a top three defender. Bevo taking the 4 means that we only have to remove the 2 from the back of the duffle coats and his legion of young fans can get Mum (or Dad if they live in the eastern subs) to do likewise. Personally i prefer that he takes the number 2 (which has the same merit re. convenience) as it proves there is some justice in this vale of tears.

                        So Bevanator is the new Benny??

                        Ok then. Poor Bevanator. And you're meant to be his biggest fanboy.

                          Connolly - if he had the number 2 - then he would have to produce stellar performances every week - because you expected that from the former number 2 and sadly we all know what happened there, so if Bevan doesnt deliver the goods he should, quite rightly cop a canning. He also he doesnt have the lovely curls to carry it off like Nick did - so Number 2 is out. As for number 4 - well the sparkle and shine went off that numbered jumper as soon as Matthews put it on his back - so maybe number 4 may be more appropriate - I mean it couldnt get more tarnished than it already is! (sorry Connolly I couldnt resist!!!)

                            Ooh, and me always interested in how numbers flow, didn't even notice 13 14 15! Shame, on me. You are right, no changing those ones. I like the idea of Shaw at 2 though. I don't think Bevo will change his number. He has had it a long time. Curry looks a nice fit for 4 though. Good thought.

                            I don't think we have much of a tradition about Premiership numbers......yet

                              Hey you are on to something here. The kid is so versatile quite frankly i don't know why he cant be given both numbers to wear ALTERNATIVELY depending when he is quarterbacking or playing up, taking pack mark screamers and surgically slotting majors (therefore wearing the mercurial No. 2) or playing it tighter than a . . . . (its a family site with a number kiddies posting) or tackling the life out of some poor bastard, taking match saving marks flying back into packs and being the glue that holds the defense together (therefore wearing the gritty No. 4). I know its unprecedented to award two seperate numbers to one player but any kid who can lay two tackles on two opponents at the same time deserves the honour.
