Nick Holland was nearly a Swan?

Was listening to Nick Holland on the radio the other day. He said he was contacted by Sydney the night before the 1992 national draft, and told they would be drafting him.

As it turned out, we took Jason Spinks at number 5, and Holand went to Hawthorn at 14.

I'm not sure if Sydney planned to use pick 35 for him, or if there was a dramatic change of mind. He had indicated some reluctance to go to Sydney, but that didn't stop them getting Rocca.

Wouldn't it have been interesting if we had a key forward like Holland through the mid-90s?

We had one. He was the best key forward ever to play the game.

That's why it's interesting. Would we have been in the market for Lockett? Would we have drafted Rocca? This apparently last-minute decision could have had a substantial impact.

Couldn't agree with you more he is an over-rated hack. Glad we are rid of him.

Bit hard I reckon. Certainly no star but has played his fair share of good footy and we had no answer to him in the '07 EF.

I think his brother was a much better footballer though.
