    "
The club is set to announce the split - which will see the Brownlow medallist paid out for the term of his contract, which was due to expire at the end of this season - this afternoon."
It really is Christmas in July for Aker!

Unfortunate ending though, he really was an incredible football player.

Yep. Such a stubborn person. Bulldogs did the right thing for their club.

But definately one of the most talented and skillfull footy players to ever play the game.

no doubt today won't be the last time he'll make the headlines.

Agree. Seemed unable to engage brain before opening mouth.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I'm not at all sorry to hear that this self centred, self absorbed egotist who thinks he's more important than his team or club has been sacked.

Nor am I. Don't think many are. He was still an insperation football player on the pitch. Key word being on.

I was reading his column this morning, thinking it was a little extreme. It was an interview with his wife, asking what it was like being married to him.

Ha ha! "But enough about me, what do you think about me?". Classic Aker.

Putting aside all the bull@@@@. This bloke is the sort of player that you would want to go out and play for your life. In his prime he could do almost anything, and was a central figure in easily the best midfield ever assembled in AFL History. On football ability I'll miss him, everything else...just helps keep journos employed and sells papers.

Pretty much how I see it too, brilliant footballer in his prime, should have let his footy do the talking.

always said a lot of rubbish but it was mostly just opinions and comments, think it was blown out of proportion at times.

One of the great resume's in football history, yet seems to have made few friends in his time at two clubs. Sad story in that sense, but doesn't seem to bother him.

Good on the Dogs for doing what they had to do.

He's made me smile a lot of times over the years, and I'm appreciative of that.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time
