AFL talent hotspot - northern Sydney

A bit counter-intuitive, but north Sydney is the seventh best source of AFL talent - as measured on proportion of players - like LRT, Jack, McVeigh - who graduate to AFL.

When researchers simply compared the number of AFL players produced by a region and the region's population of males aged 13 to 18, the top 10 was dominated by rural regions.

But when they also factored in the footy participation rate of those aged 13 to 18, urban areas dominated as those best at producing elite AFL talent, with the Riverina region - which includes Wagga - ranked 37th.
It's city v country for the next football generation

I guess it's a measure of the quality of coaching available.
