He has a poor work rate, is unaccountable, and rarely influences the outcome of a game ... until "that" handball tonight of course ... good grief!

On the other hand Aj and Sam will be the backbone of this team for the next dozen years ... stars!
Jetta gets better the more game time he is getting, the same with AJ & Sam. The more game time TDL or nipper get the better they will be, TDL was underdone this week. The tackle effort was bad but he wasn't the only one to miss easy tackles and the ball use by the experienced blokes was bloody terrible at times, especially Shaw who is a serial offender. Lewis's vertical leap is according to Roos just astounding, look forward to seeing more of it in the coming weeks. By the way Lewis in very slightly built & it is going to take a while for him to develop a tackling style that suits him without him getting injured & I think that also applies to TDL. Maybe they should think of getting Kieran's dad in to give them some training.

The fact is that TDL is not the answer to our forward problems, he is always going to be a third or even fourth leadup forward who will probably kick about a goal a game and sometimes two or three.

The answer to our forward problem is Jesse White BUT a jesse white that plays with confidence , leads , contests , marks and generally makes life hell for his opponent. Our problem is that the Jesse White we have at the moment is not performing to the standard expected of a key position forward and continually looks soft against a key position backmen. There really isnt anyone else to choose from , Johnstone still looks a little light for key position (and is injured), johnson the same, LRT or seaby or pyke for that matter should be the resting ruckmen/ third tall and not the FF and after that who do we have.
Well McGoo the problem you have managed to develop here is one of playing one player for another. There isn't one solution to the forwardline there needs to an over-all solution and a comprehensive forwardan. That plan needs to include a range of different players including Jesse & TDL as well as Nipper, Benny Harren, Benny & Bolts, maybe LJ as well. To say that an up an running Jesse is going to fix the forwardline is naive as tro have only one focus in the forwardline is instant death these days.

I cannot see Lewis tackling very much no matter how we want to him. I mean, have y ou seen those legs? toothpicks. Sinew and muscle toothpicks. He just doesn't have stop, prop, bulldoze legs. He will run them down yes, and momentum will help, but he is not going to be a tackle king. Block, harrass, strong, yes. Arm wrap, bend knees and bring em down. No.

Well I've just read through this whole thread and I'm stunned by some of the negative ideas about various players.

People making harsh judgements on first and second year players is rubbish. Very few players make an impact from the start of their careers, even some of the suprstars had slow starts, close to home think none other than one A.Goodes.

Please understand that ready made players are quite rare and most of the really good players you watch now had starts like Jetta, TDL etc. These guys are developing and will be part of our best 22 in future years I'm sure.

As for criticism of AJ, well get a life people, he has been a real find and way exceeded expectations.

So please take a balanced view of young players - lecture over :-)

Im not suggesting White replaces TDL, what I do believe that if our forward setup included a white type player (lets call him taylor walker for arguments sake) along with reid as the spine then add LRT or seaby or whoever as the third tall /backup ruckman and throw in three smalls like TDL, mcglynn, okeefe etc and our structure is very different. That really is just adding one player as the rest already play in the forward line albeit I believe commonly out of position to take account that we dont have an inform true full forward.

For the time being what about this forward structure (with possible replacement in brackets)

FF> Mc Glynne (Lamb) Spangher (Pyke) TDL (LRT)
HF LJ (AJ) Reid Bolton (Bevan yes!!)

The move of AJ to the forwards has a lot to offer and I am assuming a fit Rohan takes his place in the backlines. If we recruit a Taylor Walker we have numerous options.
We have big marking forwards (Reid,Spangher) crumbers (TDL Mc Glynne ,Lamb)
Beautiful straight kicks(LJ) and hard nut keep the ball in our forward 50 types in LRT,Bolton ,Bevan

              Multiple attack options!
