Swans and GWS after ? hAilp

It's being reported this morning on Ch 7 that the Swans are after Sentanta O"Hailpin.

Even if we pick him up for a pre-season draft pick, I would just wonder why?

It was on the bottom of the screen banner and didn't hear anyone actually speak about it.

    Story in paper here: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/af...-1226172369866
In memory of my little Staffy - Dicey, 17.06.2005 to 1.12.2011- I'll miss you mate.

Interesting. Are we just after all the Irish players available, so that the other boys don't get home sick??

If we hadn't have picked up Walsh I'd be all for it, he's shown he is handy up forward and has plenty of aggression at the ball, not sure we really need him now.

Having said that, Walsh is far from a certain thing, reading debate on the St Kilda board on the other site during the year about whether he deserved a senior game, they were divided 50/50 with plenty of the opinion that he wasn't ready

There'd only be Tommy and him. As Tiger retired and Chris McKaigue returned to Ireland after being delisted.

If he makes us a better football team then I'm all for it. People seem to forget the incredible ability the Swans have to make a silk purse out of a sows ear.

You're not taking seriously anything StKilda supporters say are you?? The fact they willingly support St Kilda should be a hint that their judgment is seriously in question.

Doesnt surprise me, we had interest in him last year aswell I remember...I just wonder how he would fit into the team. Perhaps recruit him on the rookie list?

I know you're half joking, but I think the expectation that Walsh will come in and be an instant solution for our key forward problem may not be realistic.

The posts I'm referring to were made during the season before he decided to leave so they were not tarnished by sour grapes. The reality is that he may not offer us anymore than Jessie White up forward next year.

I don't want to sound too pessimistic as I'm hoping that he can come in and make an instant impact.

Back on topic, I'd be suprised if we did draft Setanta

He's a better player than White is currently. It would be good to have them fighting it out with Pyke for the second ruck spot, and providing depth for FF. Given we can get him for free, I reckon we should go for it.

We already have plenty of, 'just ok', forwards...Spangher, White and the untried Walsh. Then there's Seaby and Pyke also.
Why would we want another, ' just ok' forward, clogging the list....No thanks.

Another forward who can't kick. Brilliant.

Agree. We only have three spare spots on the list to fill. Would rather we tried to snag another developing key defender and a couple of running players. We've invested in Walsh, and clearly the Swans still think Jesse might improve enough to be a valuable contributor. While it would be naive to think they are going to become our "Buddy and Roughy" in 2012, we need to give them some chance to show what they can add.

Setanta would seem to be the definition of a list clogger given that he is not obviously a better option than we already have, and given his age, is less likely to improve than those we already have.
