Where is our improvement going to come from.

From the 22 players that played against Hawthorn in the final last year we have only lost Kennelly.
We have recruited Mitchell who is young and won't be rushed, Armstrong and Morton who both struggled to get regular games with their previous clubs and Walsh who has never played a senior game at AFL level and from regular viewing of VFL games was just an average player in that comp.
So where is the improvement going to come from.

I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Improvement normally comes from having working really hard in the off-season, lots of skills training, some improvements to tactics and coaching, and the normal development of our many young players. I wouldn't be panicking too much - watch for the likes of Rohan, Hannebury, Jack, Kennedy and Mumford (and others) to hopefully take things to another level in 2012.

Edit: Oh I get it now.....

A little more accuracy with the goal kicking, will make a big difference.

Sam Reid anyone ? A bit more muscle, a more consistent set shot action and that tally of 29 or so goals could be more like 59. Also AJ another pre season, Parker likewise, Jack injury free, More support for Mummy ( The canadian ? ) , Rohan to absolutely explode!!!! I could keep going. Im just slightly excited for next year.

I think that if you watch / read the post season reviews of the players, particularly the younger players, on the Swans website it is evident where plenty of improvement might come from. I get the impression that every single one of them understands exactly what they need to work on to improve, understands their natural strengths, and is determined to take the steps they need to to improve.

Whether the improvement they can achieve in the next three months is sufficient to propel us into the top 4 next season is another matter.

Let's cast our minds to a few years ago. Sydney loses a semi-final, comfortably, on a Friday night at the MCG to a team, St Kilda, who, like Hawthorn this year, eventually goes very close to making the Grand Final that year. The Swans, although having a good season, winning their Elimination Final, actually marginally slipped from the season before. And the question asked by some, was: "Where is our improvement going to come from?." Yes, Darren Jolly from Melbourne was coming, along with David Spriggs from Geelong. But the careers of the captain Stuart Maxfield with his great leadership; a B and F winner from 2000, Andrew Schuable; Matthew Nicks; a Premiership player, Jason Ball; and another B and F winner, Paul Williams; were all coming to a close. So how could it be possible that the Swans were going to improve the following season.

And what "following season" am I referring to? 2005. Enough said.
