Swans chat The Greatest Club in the Land

    Hi Folks,

After a good friend of mine from this site told me to stop sulking and get my arse back on here (I'm paraphrasing but that was the general gist) I've decided to start posting again. Apologies to those who hate poor humour, amateurish analysis of the game and grammar poor.

Also thank you to all those who sent messages of support and thanks to those who are starting to rail against the overt negativity that had crept onto this site.

From my perspective following this club is one of the great privileges that you can have and I don't understand those who want to run it down at every opportunity. To clarify the club is not immune from criticism. A poor performance deserves some criticism and discussion but it's the finding fault with everything that I find unpalatable.

    Since 1996 we have:
    - won 199 regular season games with a win % of about 56%. (anyone know if any other club boasts better in that time? )
-we have grown in stature in this city.
-our culture, reputation and respect in AFL circles is unparalleled.
    - we have only missed the finals 3 times in 16 seasons
    - played in 3 grand finals
    - won the ultimate prize on that great day in 2005
    - provided a slew of memorable moments that will live in the memory forever.
    - got to see some the absolute legends of the game play for our club.
    - In the current team we have a nucleus of youngsters that will ensure that success will continue on into the future.
-Parks,AJ,Smooch,Jets,Mummy,JPK,Sammy, Kizza etc. Anyone not getting excited about that lot hasn't got a pulse.

From a personal point of view this club has helped me through some tough times over the years, I have met so many friends and great people through the club and a lot through this site and it's my sincere opinion that this the Greatest Club in the Land.

(Disclaimer: Alcohol was not a factor in any of the above although some of you will say it probably would have helped )

Phew. I thought this thread was going to be about Collingwood!!

      Welcome back mate!!
      Stiff upper lip!!

Yes, The club has certainly turned around since those days of the early 90's.
I reckon one R.D. Barrassi was the catalyst for the turn around.
Then we've got a few other nut heads on board who seem to have carried on his good start, and lifted the status and profile of The Club.

It was originally going to be a thread about the MacArthur Yobbos Drinking Club but decided to add the Swans at the last minute.

You forgot to mention setting records for attendance at AFL games outside Victoria.

We smashed that record when 72,393 came to see us play Collingwood at Homebush.

How proud I am to be member of a club that can draw huge crowds like that to a home game.

I've decided to start posting again.

You made my day. Returning after suspension is a major boost to our lives. I was worried that you might withdraw and self harm on finger buns, cream pie and your favourite flavoured milk. May our winning score on Saturday be higher than your cholesterol level. May your circle of friends grow wider than your pants size. Let KFC rejoice. The big man is back!!!!!!

Yeah, it's an amazing record of top 8 finishes.
Do any other clubs have this kind of consistency?

Don't forget that this club has the most attractive and intelligent supporters, too.

Welcome back Al! I love this site and I love being able to chat with like minded nutcases as myself, but it lost a little bit of it's joy and fun when it looked like you weren't going to return.

As for the part about the Greatest Club in the Land - absolutely spot on.
I'd like to add to your list above that we can be very proud of the fact that our club has never resorted to the digusting practise of tanking that a few of the current flag fancies have. I find it a particularly distasteful practise (albeit perfectly legitimate one) and something I'm very glad the AFL heiarchy are finally addressing.

The ladies are, most certainly. However I can't see Triple B, Bas and yours truly doing a calendar anytime soon. Imagine me draped across the bonnet of a Datsun 120Y with a come hither look. :eek

The 120Y just screams 'sex' regardless of who is draped over it!
