I think it's like the small man complex. They step up a gear. For Adelaidians Melbourne is the known enemy, not that far away and not that different, just a lot bigger. Sydney is a distant international frontier, newcomers to AFL to be conquered! So they puff themselves up for the occasion.

Adelaide seem to know our game better than most.Their moves usually are well founded and designed to exploit our weaknesses which they seem able to do regardless of where they are on the ladder. They seem to always be lucky against us but it can't be luck every time...can it?They play us with arrogance like they are masters of the game and we are the new boys on the block to be taught a lesson.

I don't hate them but I do feel sorry for them. I went to this game in 09 (my first trip to Footy Park).

Awful ground to get to. Cost me a fortune after getting stuck in traffic in a taxi from city hotel. Bogans galore on arrival.

But the worst thing is the lack of a bipartisan crowd. One of the great things about our game is the number of contests. With both sets of fans screaming prior to an umpire's decision and then one set cheering and the other booing after said decision. Screaming (or just getting excited for some) at the entertainment before you in unison with thousands of others is what unites us as fans. It's no fun where there is no opposition fans.

There is none of that at Adelaide games in Adelaide (maybe with the exception of showdown games). It is all one way. They miss out on the full experience of being in a big crowd that is more evenly balanced than the 95%/5% ratio they get at their games.

From memory, Swans were on fire in the first half of 09 game in Adelaide. You could have heard a pin drop at each goal and they booed everything and everyone red and white especially after Barry belted someone. I felt threatened on several occasions when I made my allegiances clear during the to's and fro's of the game.

True, sometimes Sydney crowds are overly weighted to red and white but there is always a good lot of ex-pats or travellers offering support for visiting team. Believe me nothing like what I experienced in Adelaide. I have no great intention of ever going back although I think when they shift to Adelaide Oval it will be much better for visiting supporters.

No real reason, other than they aren't Sydney, i hate most opposition sides equally, I'm fair minded that way.

the evidence is clear. seems like a lot of people that have had past experience with crow supporters seem to hate them by the looks of it. personally, i don't mind them. don't like losing to them or any team. but if we had a record like that against the eagles or north i'd probably have to be patching up a few holes in the living room wall after the final siren.
