Yeah he looks really strong, and apparently his kicking isn't bad either. I saw a couple of strong tackles he made as well
I Like Mike Pyke!

I like Mike. Big as a lift door and I love his attitude and his expedential rise in AFL ability. And yes he can kick. Talk about patient - I think we forget he has been at the club for a while now. This is going to be fun....If you've never jumped from one couch to the other to save yourself from lava then you didn't have a childhoodComment

Really looking forward to seeing Pyke play hopefully he has a big one and cements a spot. If he does play well will this put pressure on horse to play 2 ruck men when mumford returns?
Good luck to Tommy as well hope he has a big game great to have some IRISH in the seniors.
Cheers

Mike was on the verge of a cemeneted 22 spot last year vs the dogs. Playing well, kicked that 50m on the siren middle of the game, had one other goal I believe and then the quad went.
I only hope he can get there again, his upside is fantastic, and his desire for the contest and to succeed is visible.Comment

He really added something different to our side. On that performance they could well be justified having 2 ruckmen in the side.Comment

Mike had a good game, held his own against one of the game's better combinations, hunted the ball, tackled like a vice, accurate handballs and kicking. At the risk of being a cracked record, there's room for him with Mummy. He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. Yes Mr D that is the answer. Any ruck combo coming up against Mummy and the Moose would be shaking in their boots. I'd love to see Mummy give Nic Nat or Darren Jolly a special Mummy hug.Comment

Well on todays form it would be hard to put him out of the side, of course, it was only Melbourne. The true tale will ne told over the next three weeks. When Mummy does come back he won't be rucking the whole game for a few weeks, so we might have to play 2 rucks, but they can both go forward and a re both mobile so I don't see a problem, other than who goes out to make way for Mummy. Not a bad problem to have, bit like who makes way for Bird? You can't argue with a sick mind - Joe WalshComment

Jamar is in form, and number 3 for it hitouts in the comp. He had 46 to Pyke's 24, so he won that battle as expected. But Pyke definitely competed and that's all we could hope for and he had a bit more around the ground. Pass mark and keep him in. I wish I knew where to get hit outs to advantage stats....Comment

Pykie had 12 disposals at 83%, Jamar 7 at 57.4%. Around the ground big Mike won the battle. Clark had 16 at 62% and only managed a behind, LRt had 20 at 70% and was very effective in the forward line even though he didn't kick goals. Pykie played well first up this year as did Tommy for his first game.Comment

Pyke 24 (25% TA), LRT 6 (0%), Jamar 46 (22%), Clark 14 (29%)
Assuming that Clark's hitouts were mostly against LRT, that makes Pykey's figures look pretty decent. And I think he will continue to improve with more time at the top level. He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. Jamar a superstar ruck? Some people on this forum make me laugh. Pykey played very well yesterday, anyone see his left handed handball over the top under pressure? His ferocious tackling? He deserves a spot in the side, but sadly when mummy comes in hell be straight back into the reserves. I feel for the bloke, and even though we need depth obviously with our ruck stucks, I think pykey should seek his football career elsewhere during trade week because i think he can really stake a place at a top club as their number one rucks. Has too much too offer to bypass in a short footballing career.LRT. Lord Roberts-Thompson. He may look like the Munster, but looks can be deceiving.
