    Shaw humble pie thread

    Quite happy to eat humble pie. I was one of Rhyce Shaw's biggest critics when he was first recruited and in his first few years. I authored a thread in 2009 asserting he was a dud pick up. I have to say that I have completely changed my mind. I think he has been absolutely terrific particularly this year and his game against Geelong on Sturday was fantastic. I even enjoyed seeing him at the post match conference alongside with John Longmire.
    An automatic pick these days.

    Shawy is part of the backbone that is making the Swans 2012 contenders. His run and carry is a real delight.

      I have to agree. After seeing him play for the pies in the 01/02 grand finals he did not look like a composed consistent footballer and was mixed up with the likes a didak do you new he had skeletons in the closet but has really matured and proven himself to be one of the best shaws to have ever played imo

        What linko said. Matured. That is the key. (also a great reason to give some of the younger players a bit of leeway, sometimes it just takes time). He is a good man, a good player and a great leader. He consistently ends up in the top end at the B&F, and is always surprised at the fact. Noone else is. If anyone had any residual reservations about Shaw, the standing O from his fellow players last year as Best Clubman would put that to rest.

            Ditto what Primmy said.

            Rhyce is the one of the greatest guys I know, so influential and encouraging of all our players. And to top it off he is fabulous defender, really knows how to read the game and with his super speed run off the half back. His quick witted goals, very few a scored but when he does they are breath taking. And how about that one handed mark recently.

            I think Shawry is completely underrated. But I think that's a bit of hoodoo as coming from Collingwood as we all love to hate Collingwood

            But I love the guy. IMHO my all time favourite player because;

                I reckon he is awesome too, but he must have the highest stat of kicking the ball out on the full(he does it alot).

                    At the Speed he is running at, and always under pressure, from opposition I am actually surprised it doesn't happen more often.

                    It also relates to experience also. Our players that he is kicking to should be able to read the play and to where he is going to kick it. Some of the newer kids do not read it so well, and end up in the wrong spot.

                      Some interesting comments, Kyles. You obviously like a man with beard.

                      Rhys has been a great player for us and I'm a fan, but his kicking can let him down at times. I don't think it's other players inexperience which causes this.
