The draw & making top four

Things you do on a slow day - Just thinking that the first five rounds have in my mind divided the comp in two.

There are six teams - GWS, GCS, WB, Melb, Bris, StK who can't make the eight and should be pencilled in as certain wins by any aspiring top 8 team. Still a long way to go but I can't see any of these six beating anyone other than fellow cellar dwellars.

So the remaining 12 aspirants finishing position can be aided by playing these six teams more than their final eight rivals. A quick look through the draw shows

Teams who play the bottom six

8 times - Richmond, Fremantle, Port & Swans

7 times - Adelaide, Essendon, WCE, Carlton, Geelong, North Melb

    6 times - Hawthorn, Collingwood

A soft start to the year sees us playing four of these teams in the first six rounds, we only have four more in the next 16 rounds. So we have an advantage over most of our likely rivals in the race for a high finishing ladder position. Just need to make use of it now :-)

Adelaide wont make the 8. History tells us Richmond dont make the 8. Port have had a very soft draw so far, but may still squeak in.

At this stage I'd be picking Swans, Hawthorn, Collingwood, Essendon, Geelong, Freo, Port and one of Carlton / Kangaroos to make the 8. Possibly from that Swans, Hawthorn, Essendon Geelong for top 4. Difficult to know with Essendon - hopefully they have a train wreck season after bans are handed out.

Essendon are off to a great start. If they make it to 8-1, they'll be unstoppable.

I just watched the 7:30 report

it seems that Essendon are cactus, if what's in that story is to be believed.

Look forward to seeing how their spin doctors respond to these latest revelations....

I had Adelaide at 8 at the start of the year and Essendon at 4. The rest I had are pretty predictable from last year.

I'm feeling confident at this stage.

Port have starting strong, but it's on the back of young talent, that history has shown will drop off as the year progresses. Next year though....

The Essendon thing is a different issue that has potential to explode and leave me feeling very unconfident of Essendon finishing the season at all.

If Essendon has cheated, than all the games that they won with drug cheats playing should be voided. How they are playing today with known cheats is unbelievable. It would be like Lance Armstrong being halfway through his eighth Tour de France victory, while everyone knowing the results of his previous tests.
The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.

You mean like last year when they did and then didn't make the finals?

Those emails are incredibly damning. If the Bombers escape this and go on to win a flag, it'll be the biggest joke on our game to date.

I did this the other day as well.
From my account we had 4 tough games in the 2nd half of the season.
Richmond I still cannot regard as a tough game.
I think they will unravel as the season progresses. Only problem is they have been a problem side for the Swans of recent times.

We can fairly confidently say that Essendon wont make the top 8. The evidence is mounting, when found guilty, the AFL will come down hard and fast on them, and certainly wont want them anywhere near the finals.
