    Mummy Crosses the Bridge

Shane Mumford has accepted an offer from the GWS Giants. Rumours are that the deal was a 3 year contract at 600 k per year.

I wonder what we will get for him. Maybe we can do a swap for Jaksch or Bruce. GWS are in he driver's seat having the PSD on their side.

Bruce is going to St Kilda to get game time - one look at our tall stocks and there's no way he'll accept coming to us, Jaksch is homesick and also contracted. Can't see him wanting to cross town.

    GWS have picks 1, 9, 19, 35, 53 (etc).

For Mummy, we should be getting picks 1, 9 and 53.

      Seems fair to me.

(Love Mummy, but he's a bit injury prone. Maybe the grass is softer out west!!)
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Good luck to the big man. He has his Premiership Medal, he is still more or less in Sydney, and he can do a good job at GWS.

Its a good fit all round.

If we get anything I'll be shocked. Looks like GWS is a little pissed off at us at the moment given their trigger happy twitter account. Guess they're starting to understand exactly what sort of bully we are now...

Good luck to Mumford though - the Swans left him hanging and rightly he wasn't keen to wait anymore.

so let me get this right we have Mummy and White confirmed by Ireland most likely going

We have already had Bolton, Morton and Mattner retire........ie if I was a Hawk supporter that is like Hale, Mitchell, Whitecross, Puopolo and Gunston leaving or retiring !!!

could you imagine if this list of hawks players moved on ????

yet it has happened for us and no body cares except for Buddy and Swans supporters ????

GWS's second round pick will turn into #21 due to the compo picks for Daisy and Buddy. I think this is the best we can hope for, unless we can work out a deal involving other players. I don't know how much incentive there is to do a 'fair' deal, or at least a reasonable one since there will be a long term relationship between the 2 clubs that they wouldn't want to damage (I would think). The did say they wanted to work a trade, so that's a good start.

Given the circumstances surrounding the Tippett acquisition and now Buddy, if he went to the PSD, everyone would say we had it coming, and I suppose they would be right.

We get Pick 19 from them and we give them Mummy plus a Business Plan on how to run a football Club.

                Seems more than fair trade.

A bit of an unfair comparison methinks. Our list is the old, the infirm and the unwanted.

First we get them to take Tony Armstrong off our hands. Only then will we show them the Business Plan, the first sentence of which reads: Whatever you do, don't take Tony Armstong.

Just received this email announcement from the Giants. Note the bit of hilited:

Swans premiership ruckman Shane Mumford has accepted an offer to join cross town rivals, the Greater Western Sydney GIANTS.

One of the game's premier ruckmen, Mumford has played 100 AFL games and was a member of the Swans 2012 premiership side.

The GIANTS will now work to facilitate a trade for the out of contract ruckman when the AFL Trade Period starts next week or secure him through AFL pre-season draft.

Mumford said he was excited to be joining the GIANTS for the next three years.

"The GIANTS are an exciting club with a great future and I couldn't be happier to be moving across Sydney to join them," Mumford said.

"They have a talented young midfield and it's a great opportunity to help them go to the next level and achieve on-field success."

Mumford, 27, played 22 games for the Swans in 2013 and stands at 198 centremetres and weighs 104 kilograms.

Head Coach Leon Cameron said it was a great coup for the GIANTS.

"This shows that high calibre players are prepared to join our club in Western Sydney and Canberra and we are delighted that Shane has agreed to join us," Cameron said.

"We said we needed to target an experienced ruckman and with the addition of Shane we have landed a quality player.

"As our number one ruckman he will take some of the pressure off Jonathan Giles while we continue to develop Andrew Phillips and Tom Downie and gives us depth in our ruck stocks.

"We have every confidence in our list management strategy and will continue to be aggressive in the trade period to acquire the experienced players we need at the GIANTS."

We get absolutely nothing for Mummy because GWS have first pick in Pre Season draft....then again Buddy costs nothing either.

Don't Adelaide miss out on a round 1 pick because of the Tippett saga and Essendon because of the supplement saga?

So effectively we have traded Mummy and a load of cash for Buddy. I am sad we have lost Mummy and hope it doesn't upset the team balance.

I suspect that GWS will keep their powder dry re the PSD as they need to use that pick to land a reasonably big name.

I could see us bundling Mummy with another player or two and getting a first round pick.

Vic centric AFL supporters are ringing up SEN to say that GWS should burn us with the Mummy trade due to Franklin gate. We are hated in Melbourne right now.

The best we could expect from GWS is their 3rd round pick....which will be in the high 30's.

If they offer that, we should take it quickly and move on.
