    The Laurel & Hardy Show

What were they thinking. Mike Pyke goes for a lonely stroll toward goal his back to the play. Not a player within 20 metres. Adam Goodes sees him and handballs to him, even though he had his back to the play. Goodes was 30 metres from goal on a slight angle. Certainly if Pykie had his attention on the play, instead of having a stroll in the long grass of the MCG counting daisies, then he would have been a wonderful option. By the time Big mike realised the ball was coming his way, it was in the hands of an opponent and heading bush. This goes down as a 'Footy Classic Stupid moment'.

If you have a set shot within 30 metres on a 45 degree angle you should go back and kick it. Not sure passing it off to a ruckman deeper in the pocket was the smart play

I think Adam has shown reluctance to kick any significant distance lately. Whether this is because of some niggle or something more serious, that could be a sign of the beginning of the end, I'm not sure. I'd like him to go on and on, but I suspect the end is drawing near. Last year, before the last injury, he wouldn't have hesitated to kick.
Perhaps not so much a comedy of errors as the progress of Father Time.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I was not angry watching it, I laughed. These sort of things make our great game fun.

Between you and me and the gate post (I assume the opposition have picked up on this anyway), his knee is shot (I think his right one). If you notice most of his kicks are on his left and he is hesitant to kick on his right? I've noticed that his running doesn't appear to be effected too much, just his kicking. Unfortunately, I think this will be his last season as his knee won't improve. Hopefully, with a premiership carrot dangling in front of his nose he will produce some of his magic as he has done so many times in the past in that final dive across the line.

In relation to last rounds incident however, Anyone who's ever played footy knows that you never turn your back on the play. That was a poor mistake by Pyke, probably due because he didn't grow up playing the game.

I agree Goodsie will not front up next year. That is why we have a young bloke called Membrey. He is the next Adam Goodes, maybe not so flash but he will do nicely.

Yes you are right MBB you learn that at an early age or rue the not learning to keep one eye on the player with the ball. Yes I agree it was due to Pyke not having an Aussie Rules background. But in the end Adam should not have HB to him. Laurel & Hardy time LOL

I agree that goodes looks gone. He doesn't have the same acceleration, or mobility but straight line top speed is still good. He is also getting run off a lot in our forward line and spending a lot of time pointing at people to cover his man

I blame goodes not pyke for the play. I would have wanted pyke to receive that ten metres out with no one within twenty metres for that play to have even been contemplated and I don't blame pyke in the least for turning his back on the play. Ruck man very very rarely look at a person taking a shot as they trot down to the goal line, defensive ones yes. Offensive ones very rarely.

It is also a ruckman's job to get down to the goal line, not take the ball on a burst and stream into goals.
