Port worried about new Yank executive

Port Adelaide worried about new American executive

Port Adelaide Power players have admitted they are secretly concerned about the club?s new football manager, saying Jack Bauer has been unreasonably secretive about his past and will only tell them that he was a ?government agent? back in America.

?This guy seems okay as a footy manager but he insists that we call him ?Agent Bauer? and is a nervous type of guy, always looking over his shoulder or demanding we run full background checks on fans who show up to watch training,? said Port star Matthew Primus. ?He?s forever noting the rego numbers of the players? cars and he quietly warned me the other day that coach Mark Williams might not be who we think he is.

?I had to laugh at that because I don?t think even Choco knows who he is sometimes.?

It was Williams who recruited Bauer to the role, saying that the American had a great deal of experience in spotting and dealing with complicated conspiracy theories, of which the Power coach has repeatedly claimed the AFL has many ? all designed to bring down his club.

?I can?t say too much because of security clearances but some of the days this guy has been through makes our September nightmares of the past two years look like a kids? picnic,? Williams told thebladder.com

Gavin Wanganeen admitted he was a little taken aback recently when Bauer said he needed to talk to him alone. ?Jack all but physically dragged me into the clubroom?s shower block. Nobody was there yet he insisted on turning on all the taps, to full power, before whispering to me that he thought it would make sense of the players to wear moulded soles in our pre-season intra-club matches. I asked him why and he said it was because the ground was too hard for screw-in stops at this time of year. I asked why we needed to turn on all the showers and he looked at me like I was completely crazy and pointed mysteriously towards the roof before pressing one finger to his lips.?

Chad Cornes was bemused when Bauer turned a lamp on full glare into his face while asking him whether he?d take part in a school clinic a couple of weeks ago and most of the players still can?t talk about Bauer?s top secret pre-season training exercises designed to test mental and physical strength as well as leadership abilities. ?Suffice to say, Saddam?s capture looked pretty soft,? said one Power recruit.

Meanwhile, Matthew Primus expressed some concern about the hours Bauer was putting in. ?He only seems to be around for one hour each week. Then, when I see him the next week, he acts as if the conversation we were having occurred just a few minutes ago. It's really weird.?
