    TLM Countdown 2014, Qualifying Final

    First Qualifying Final: ANZ Stadium
    Sydney Swans 13.15 (93) def. Fremantle 10.9 (69)

Playing at the ANZ Stadium on a sodden surface after weeks of heavy rain, the Sydney Swans recorded a 24-point victory over Fremantle to secure a week?s rest and a home preliminary final.

The Swans led at every change but the outcome remained in doubt until well into the final term. At half-time the Swans were ahead on almost all statistics but, with over-emphasis on handballing, were only five points clear on the scoreboard. In the third quarter they stepped up to take a 22-point lead only to see Fremantle close the gap to 10 points early in the last quarter. Then Lance Franklin, who had been pushed up the ground by John Longmire, kicked two critical goals to earn the starring role on the highlights reel. The first came from a massive 60m drop punt that sailed through; and the second after he slotted the ball on the run from an acute angle in the left pocket.
A tight hamstring forced Nick Malceski to be substituted out of the game at the end of the first quarter and be replaced by Craig Bird who was returning from a knee injury.

During a pre-match function, AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan presented the McClelland Trophy for the 2014 minor premiership to Swans president Andrew Pridham.
