Interesting listening to Gerard Whateley and David King discussing our form on their SEN Monday Means Test segment yesterday. King mentioned that it's difficult to analyse us on stats alone because we play differently and don't conform. He reckons we're on our way to dominate but not in premiership contention this year. That will happen next year. He believes Warner still looks like a boyish young midfielder but only needs to put another 2-3 kgs to go harder for longer, predicting he'll look like Luke Parker next year! Here is the link. Swans discussion starts at 28.10 mark:

        Being a has-been better than being a never-was.

Having said that, May is head and shoulders the best defender in the comp, what Gawn did in the last qtr with intercept marking, he does all game.
Well, they sure put the doggies away on the GF last year. As well they did to the Cats in the prelim. They have been off the boil (imho) of late, however, and I thought we were a good chance if we didn’t miss the start again. We did end up doing just that (again) - and it was really impressive how we worked our way back into it. Gawn was exceptional… but many of the demons were not quite on their game. I doubt if they’ll slide too much down the ladder.

I think that they weren’t on their game because of the way we played.
They certainly started out confidently enough but once we ratcheted up the pressure they started to falter. We dominated them in the second quarter and while they came out after half time with renewed vigour it soon became apparent that we were not going to drop off in our pressure.
Now I am not saying they should be written off for the premiership but the last two weeks have shown that they are susceptible to teams that bring plenty of pressure to the contest.
It will be interesting to see how they handle other teams attempts to replicate this and with the hardest run home of any team they are not a lock for the minor premiership.

This is it. It's very difficult for any team (including us) to play the game it wants to play when they are under a frantic assault from
the opposition. The all field manic-ness our guys brought for extended periods against Melbourne unravelled them. Sure there were
mistakes aplenty but it worked and we got the four points. History has shown playing with that level of franticness (is that a word)
week in, week out is nigh on impossible. But being able to turn it on when up against quality opposition is a very handy weapon to
have in your arsenal. I'm very confident our younger brigade are learning from the very best (Parker, JPK, Bud) that this is what is
required to be successful sometimes, or at least help change the momentum and pace of games.

With both Hickey and Franklin available for the next game, it looks certain that Amartey will be dropped. Can we play both Hickey and Ladhams in the same side if we also want to carry 3 tall forwards, e.g. Franklin, Reid and McDonald?

Campbell played very well as a HF in some of the Allies games. It doesn't make sense to continue to play him as a defender, especially when we have so many options down back. It doesn't look like Wicks will lose his spot, so how can Campbell get into the side?

It's great to have a healthy list, but it makes selection difficult.
Florent was great down back and whilst I would like to see Cunningham, Campbell, COR and Stephens get to play more with the seniors, it is difficult to see where they fit into this side.

On the talls, I think Reid has shown enough to get the nod ahead of Ladhams. He was the best of the two against either Gawn or Jackson and certainly better value up forward. Armatey is unlucky because Franklin must come back and his position is the most vulnerable.

Both our premierships were based on manic preasure. The club has been trying to inject faster kids with elite disposal that will allow us to take wins without having to play with super intensity. It was however, wonderful to see that they can still adopt the more traditional super frenetic approach when needed. If we were able to switch modes within the space of a game it'd make us a phenomenally hard team to handle.

I certainly hope that’s the case. I think we’re one of the best pressure teams in the comp when we’re on. But when we’re not, we can lose the plot & can concede goals heavily in short stints. & It’s hard to keep that up for a whole game.

Which brings me to defence. So happy with the McCartins - just outstanding. I’m yet to be convinced of Ollie’s defensive role - looked a bit lost to me earlier on the game, but the way the whole team fought to get back into this game & get on top (Ollie included) was great to watch & I’m happy to be proven wrong.

Neither Campbell or Stephens were anything to write home about in the VFL. Cunningham needs a game or 2 in the VFL before he will be fit enough after the type of injury he had. Hickey likewise.
We have them where we want them, everything is going according to plan!
