Great team response to last week's debacle and great personal response from Paps. A tremendous win overall, let's hope it's not all in vain.

While not wishing to go negative, one slightly concerning stat among all the amazing positive ones is conceding 10 marks I50 - continues to be a bit of an issue for us.

But otherwise a spectacular display of walking the talk.

      - umpire reports Papley (who is also standing the mark and gets confronted by Liberatore): "not sure who the high contact is against"
      - Franklin hands off to Papley who snaps through the goal: "and Franklin makes it two!"
Ok, that last one was confusing watching from home, but he is AT THE GROUND. What is the point of BT? As Richie Benaud said: "put your brain into gear and if you can add to what's on the screen then do it, otherwise shut up"

Anyway, I'm sure some people love him.
It was after the commentary around the Buddy/Papley goal, I started to wonder whether they're actually at the ground?

There weren't too many journalists there apparently!

there's a first time for everything - i just did the #aflswansdogs post-match pressers and i was the only journo there asking Qs.
honestly i find that a bit staggering for a game involving two teams battling for a finals spot in ostensibly the country's biggest sporting league

There was an Angus Taylor press conference recently, when there were no journalists in attendance. Which didn't stop him pausing after he finished his announcement, and then asking if there were any questions.

All of their games are nationally broadcast so people are well aware of their team and success. It was a great choice by our earlier administrators to make it the Swans' tune. Thanks for sharing that great rendition, its very stirring!
Probably deserves a thread of its own, but here goes:

Written by two Notre Dame graduates in 1908, it’s shown up in countless movies and television shows. It was ranked number one in William Studwell's 1998 book “College Fight Songs: An Annotated Anthology.” College football historian Beano Cook ranked "Victory March" the fourth most well-known song of any kind in America, just behind "The Star-Spangled Banner," "White Christmas," and "Happy Birthday." Michael Collins writes:

To millions of Americans, the Victory March is a powerful touchstone [that] has resonated deeply among families and over generations. The Irish in South Boston, immigrant families in neighborhoods in New York, steelworkers in Pittsburgh, big shouldered Chicagoans, and schools and football programs throughout the nation have adopted the song. The Victory March unites families and generations with a university many have never visited.

I know for a fact it was used in "Flying High" (still, in my opinion, one of the funniest films ever) and I want to say it has been used in both The Simpsons and Citizen Kane - although I will need to verify those.

Thanks for the additional info Aprilbr and V&R!

The Swans adopted the tune in 1961. That was the year my Dad started taking me to South Melbourne games. There are probably some RWOers who remember the song that was used before that. It's mentioned in this article.

I can't recall the episode, but I'm fairly sure that it's been used in The Simpsons. I think there was a scene, where an embarrassed band hurriedly scampers off a field, while playing an increasingly sped up version.

Could it be that the week before the Essendon game it rained all week in Sydney which could well have limited our training, and took the edge off our fitness.

The Notre Dame Fight Song also featured in the Hollywood movie, "Knute Rockne: All American". This was Ronald Reagan's most famous movie role. Rockne was the famous coach of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Outstanding freshman halfback George Gipp leads the Irish to greater gridiron glory. Gipp is stricken with a fatal illness after the final game of the 1920 season, and on his death bed, he encourages Rockne to someday tell the team to "win one for the Gipper." This saying is often used in American pop culture and Reagan was often nicknamed the Gipper when he was US President. Link below:

Which is precisely why it's in Flying High! It parodies that movie (amongst about 917 others).

If you’re looking for some more Chad love, Mark Robinson has it for you - saying right now, if you redo the 2019 draft, the Chad pops up to No1.

That’ll make a grumpy old man’s heart skip a beat.

                              Coaches' votes for the game.

                              9 Chad Warner (SYD)
                              8 Tom Papley (SYD)
                              6 Sam Reid (SYD)
                              4 Paddy McCartin (SYD)
                              2 Isaac Heeney (SYD)
                              1 Callum Mills (SYD)

We had a lot of good players but those votes seem about right to me. The view I took from watching the game at the SCG was that Reid was my BOG but I didn't necessarily expect him to get the full house of votes. Happy he got (at least) the six he did.

Someone might point out this isn't a unique solution but I think it must be

                              Warner 5/4

                              McCartin 3/1
                              Heeney 2/0
