I'm sorry for confusing you with a different poster, deja.

You're entitled to your own opinions about Ginnivan but I think most players do what they can get away with and there's a culture of taking every advantage you can (although there are some that push the line more). My observation is that they don't play to the rules so much as to the umpiring.
All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated, and well supported in logic and argument than others. -Douglas Adams, author (11 Mar 1952-2001)

No, my point is that the large majority of players don't throw their heads back feigning contact, when absolutely no contact has been made. So, I really don't buy the 'why is everyone picking on poor Jack' spin, that a few commentators were pushing last season.

I happen to like watching him. The umps caught up with his staging. We need more characters like him in the game but 2 weeks and a $5000 fine is a pretty light penalty for someone who essentially gave the middle finger to the game and supporters. Will there be more to come on this? These boys have the drug issue drummed into them from Under 16's and I don't buy the "boys will be boys chorus". I suspect the 2 Collingwood boys who got done for a year for an off season bit of stupidity will be mightily pi55ed off.

Interestingly, Andrew Dillon forgot to reference supporters in his legal statement.

Apparently a large part of Ginnivan’s annual pay comes from match payments, so it is more than $5K.

Seems everyone from the umps to a stranger in the toilets is now catching onto him LOL

AFL drug policy always seems weak, but then maybe that's just me as the only drugs I've ever taken comes in a red wine bottle.

I hate any player milking frees including our own, it's cheating

That was more likely to be me Bloodspirit.

As someone who's had more than a few bits of sprinkle in a cubicle, I've gotta say I think it's pretty crappy for him that someone felt the need to film it then shop it to media outlets. Like, is that what we're about these days?

Leave aside whether or not the AFL should be policing performance-retarding drugs, or whether or not you think he ducks for frees; the only person he might have been harming was himself.

The reason I laugh a lot about Ginnivan's ails is because I played footy against his Dad and his uncle in the Maryborough Castlemaine FL (it wasn't FNL in those days) and they were jerks so I am not surprised in the least that he has turned out to be like he is....a jerk. Sorry Nico, I can't agree that "we need more characters like him in the game"....we don't.

He should pull his smartarse head in (and not throw it back all the time ) or his career will be short and painful.

An interesting angle in this article, he may have trouble getting back into the team.
Ginnivan didn't read the room now the pressure is on

It's an insight into a young professional sportsman's thinking nowadays when they are on big wages to play footy and are willing to jeopardise all they have worked for by using illicite substances. And in Ginnivan's case, he had just finished a training camp with 43 of his Collingwood mates where I'm sure McCrea would have been instilled the "team first" and no ratbags approach. A day after the training camp, Ginnivan goes off with some mates and gets on the yiha stuff. Just shows that the message from McCrea didn't get through.

I suspect you're right, i'm-uninformed2. It makes sense that I would confuse you two because you're both posters whose posts I really appreciate.

SEN reports that Castagna from the Tigers has retired at age 26.

Wonder whether the recruitment of GWS midfielders influenced his decision.

Probably time to start a 2023 thread for this... Anyway, I am deeply sceptical of the Hawks' list management approach under Sam Mitchell. I am really curious about whether they have cut too deeply and their players are going to get too dispirited losing horribly for a good long while. Here's hoping!
