New ratings record for round
May 3, 2004
THE AFL tonight said it had set a record over the weekend for free-to-air television ratings over a home and away round.
The league announced 4.7 millions viewers had watched the eight games, three of which were decided by one point.
It also said ratings for the season were so far up by 11 per cent after six rounds, while total attendance at games had passed 1.6 million, an increase of 2.1 per cent on last season.
AFL and club membership was up by eight per cent in mid-April compared to the same time last year, according to the league.
Meanwhile, Collingwood is still locked in its dispute with the Melbourne and Olympic Parks Trust over the Magpies' plans to name its new training oval the Lexus Bob Rose Oval.
The trust claims the Magpies jumped the gun and named the oval, located in the heart of Melbourne's sports precinct, without permission.
The parties will continue negotiations this week in an attempt to resolve the dispute
