Lions' centre half forward Jonathan Brown will miss Sunday?s match against Sydney. X-rays on Tuesday confirmed that Brown has a hairline fracture of a small bone in the sinus area, suffered during a head clash with teammate Jamie Charman at Geelong on Sunday.

"He definitely cannot play this weekend because it is an interstate game," said coach Leigh Matthews. "He has a condition which swells up on a plane flight which rules travel out altogether."

Chris Scott is troubled by hamstring soreness, Jason Akermanis is receiving on-going treatment for a thigh problem, and Nigel Lappin and Alastair Lynch are returning from illness. All are expected to play against Sydney.

Beau McDonald will come straight back if his sore shoulder passes a fitness test. Justin Leppitsch has a chronic groin injury that is still causing some concern.
