After the Swans had rounded off the pre-season with a 41-point win over Richmond, coach Paul Roos said he was especially happy with the form of his new forward line.
"I was happy with the way Barry Hall persevered, they flooded back in the first quarter and got a lot of numbers back but after giving away a couple of free kicks early he kept persevering, kept on leading, kept on moving and hopefully that is the benchmark for the year.
"Whether he kicks goals or not, obviously we hope he does, but just the work rate and the fact he kept on working and in the end he kicked his fair share of goals," Roos said. "It worked pretty well today. Nick, given the fact he hasn't played much footy, was very good, especially his clean ball-handling. And we were able to put Jason Ball up there and Adam Goodes at times, that changes the face of the whole forward line and takes a bit of pressure off Hally. In general terms, I thought it worked very well."
"We made better use of the footy, they flooded back in the first quarter and did pretty well," Roos said. "In the second quarter, we tended not to bomb it in long, and worked it around a bit smarter and we also started to win the stoppages."
"Richmond probably kept us in the game with their bad kicking, but the final three quarters were very pleasing. We couldn't have finished off any better."
Richmond coach Danny Frawley said Davis and Hall would cause defensive headaches this season.
"Hall was terrific, they've got the dual prong there, they looked very dangerous," Frawley said. "I'm sure that set-up is going to worry a number of sides, especially on this ground."
"Good credit to Sydney, they ran the ball out, but look at the personnel we had on the bench in the last quarter and in a game proper they wouldn?t be sitting there."
Meanwhile, Paul Roos rates the team as on track given several senior players are still to return.
"We could not have finished off any better in terms of where we want to be. You?d like to have had Mick O?Loughlin play and you?d like to have had Stephen Doyle play ? as a coach you want the hamburger with the lot."
"I think maybe we?d give it an eight out of ten in terms of where we want to be, not a ten because we still have blokes not available at this given stage but in terms of our whole pre-season, our preparation and giving game time today an eight which is good."
Andrew Schauble (quad), Matthew Nicks (calf), and Ben Fixter (foot) were rested for the Richmond game but Roos expects that they will be back for the opening round.
