We hope you all had a great Christmas and a Happy New Year. From time to time we will be sending out our Swans Bulletin to keep you updated on Swans news. We have highlighted below some exciting issues leading into the 2004 season.

SWANS TO HAVE NEW SOCIAL BASE

The Swans are poised to return to the nest from which they flew in 1982, with the Club to establish a new Victorian base at the old Lake Oval. The Swans Victorian manager Tony Morwood confirmed yesterday that the Club had an agreement with the tenants of the ground, the South Melbourne Soccer Club, to have their social base located at Bob Jane Stadium.

WIZARD CUP - SUNDAY 22nd FEBRUARY

    SWANS v CARLTON

The first game of the Wizard Cup is on February 22nd, the Swans play Carlton at Telstra Stadium in Sydney. The game is only being screened on Foxtel therefore we invite all Swans supporters to attend our NEW social base at Bob Jane Stadium (Lake Oval). Entry is free and the match will be shown on the big screen commencing at 3.45pm.

We will have memberships and merchandise for sale. Car parking will be free and available on the Albert Road Service Road. The South Melbourne Soccer Club will be playing a game at 7.30pm and all Swans supporters are invited to stay on and watch the game for free. So come down and watch the first match of the year with your fellow Swans supporters and perhaps stay on for the soccer!

    SWANS TO DISPLAY 'SMFC'

On the back of the QBE Sydney Swans guernsey in season 2004 and beyond, it will display the initials 'SMFC', linking the Sydney-based club back to its origins, the South Melbourne Football Club. The front of the jumper will remain the same.

The initials were used on the Team of the Century jumper in the 2003 game against Collingwood at Telstra Dome, receiving a positive response from many associated with the Club, especially those in Melbourne.

"The selection of our Team of the Century was a catalyst for bringing Melbourne and Sydney together as one," Swans CEO Myles Baron-Hay said.

"We respect our tradition and are committed to growing our supporter base in Melbourne. The recent appointment of Tony Morwood as General Manager and the addition of SMFC to the jumper reflects (in part) that commitment."

Tony Morwood made comment, "As a Melbourne representative of the Swans, I believe the SMFC is significant and clearly demonstrates our link to South Melbourne."

"Last year's Team of the Century showed that you can have your team located in another city but still feel part of the Club you are so passionate about."

"We've got a full calendar and ambitious plans to grow our membership base. We're building the Red and White Army in Melbourne," Morwood added.

    SWANS MERCHANDISE AND MEMORABILLIA

In 2004 the Swans Melbourne office will have a full range of merchandise and memorabilia available. By purchasing through us you will be supporting the Club, however if you buy merchandise at the Melbourne games our opponent will gain the benefit. If you would like a Merchandise brochure sent out, reply to this email with your postal details!

    All the right moves

If anyone says that the club is not working hard enough to try and win over some of those 15,000 supporters who turn up to Melbourne games and are not members, this list of new acheivements is compelling reading:

    * We now have an ex-player and TOTC member running the Melbourne office

    * We will now have a stable social club for watching games on TV and to meet the players at aftermatches

    * Our new base is at our spiritual home the "Lakeside Oval"

    * The "SMFC" is to be worn on the back of the jumper"

    * New membership options such as the "Premiership Club" and "The Bloods", along with more opportunities to meet the players (Sanctuary Lakes golf day)

    * Membership caps to show who is a member

Only one more thing they can possibly do and that is to get that missing game back in Melbourne to 6 or 7 if they are miracle workers !!!!

Could not be happier with the direction of the club at present in Melbourne

Gee, you'd think they'd be reading RWO, because these things are what many on this forum have been crying out for for yonks!
