Another attempt to rewrite our history

    2 down, 1 to go.

Hot on the heels of league "journo" Ray Chesterton claiming the Swans history does not precede 1982, his dim-witted offsider at the Telegraph Mike "Okey Dokes" Gibson has done his best to rip apart Sydney's connection to South Melbourne.

(Unfortunately I can't find it online so can't provide a link).

Melbourne Swans fans are just bandwagon supporters according to Gibbo, who reclaim South Melbourne only when they're doing well.

Gibbo would be well served reading Bob Skilton's article on the Swans website about what the Club and this Saturday means to him and other South fans, and how the current players have gone out of their way to embrace the South heritage.

As I said 2 down, 1 to go. Only waiting for Roy Masters to put some pearls of league ignorance to print in the coming days.

My comment earlier this week stands - league journalists should not be writing articles about the Swans during Grand Final week.

Saw that article this morning and just had to laugh at how stupid Mike Gibson is. The guy is a washed up has-been journalist whose only decent work was hosting Wide World of Sports 20 years ago.

      Hypocritical of him.

He only writes about us when we are going well. Lose a few in a row and he is nowhere to be seen.

Now Mike Gibson, if you, or someone else from the Terror are reading, while it's not exactly the same issue you wrote on, here is an article about the history of the Swans worth reading!

I get tired of some of the rubbish written by suppoosed sports journos who cant see past NRL. Gibbo is a complete .... (I cant say what I want to say cause I have been threatened with suspension if I continue to avoid the swear filter). He doesnt hesitate to bag Sydney when it suits him.

Gibbo belongs to a bygone era.
A dinosaur scratching a living writing "opinion" peices. In sports journalism thats only one step away from the exit sign.

I have never given writers from this newspaper much
credibility when it comes to the Swans and Australian
rules Football. Some who write were far from supportive
of the move to Sydney by the Swans and their comments on the
code were always critical. Jeff Wells is one who spoke out in
favour of the Swans and the code IIRC.

Wrong though it is, since it was written for a NSW audience, it is probably a good article to get more NSWelshpeople on board and accepting the Swans as a Syndey team.

Gibson should keep his mouth shut on the topic of the Swans. It was only a couple of years ago he basically said there was no room in the Sydney market for AFL.

It's time for people to resist referring to the Telegraph as a "newspaper". It has very little to do with news. It's level of investigative journalism is negligible at best. It is a well-oiled propaganda machine driven by spin, prejudice and profit. It's rubbish, don't read it and don't buy it.
It's very hard to live in a studio apartment in San Jose with a man who's learning to play violin. That's what she told the police when she handed them the empty revolver.

Gibson is a sports journo of modest talent. Some years ago he got stuck into Les Murray (the real one) for being supported by arts grants to write poetry. I have detested Gibson ever since.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I'd love to open the paper Monday morning and see a report from him. I didn't always agree with is comments but at least he loved amnd appreciated the game.

How desperate are the NRL and their lackies this week for a bit of good news.

Obivously the NRL have let their attack dogs off the leash this week in a deperate attempt to create a divide between the Sydney residents and Melbourne residents who support our club.

None of those blokes would have attended a Swans game in Melbourne before and have as much right to comment on anything to do with our links to South Melbourne than I do about their boring bum sniffing game they play. Which is zilch.
