If we win it will be because

    - our forward structure is so much better than theirs. even with barry out and vogels/shauble/kenny in we would have had the better front setup.

    - our midfield has no fear from any other. we were able to match it with brisbane at their peak, port at theirs, the eagles three weeks ago, geelong two weeks ago and the saints last week.

    - we've got form at the mcg, the eagles matches at the mcg this year were

    9. lost to collingwood by four goals
    11. 2 point win over the spent tigers the week after they lost nathan brown
    13. 3 goal win over melbourne who had just started their slide (fair win i guess)
    19. 8 goal loss to the western bulldogs

not abysmal, but not a stronghold. we've not one every game there, but we did win there last week in good conditions.

    - the run out of our backline will have their forwards scrambling over each other in an effort to man up on our defenders.

    - the smaller confines of the mcg, in comparison to those of subiaco will compress their midfield space, allowing us to bury their thrust into half-forward.

    - the larger confines of the mcg in comparison to the scg will give our backs that much more run and cleaner delivery forward.

in short - we should be able to dictate the terms of this match without the eagles even realising what is happening.

    i hope.
then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i know

We win if we pressure their midfield enough to make their I50s less effective and we are able to rebound and generate enough I50s ourselves.

(bloody hell there are too many butterflies when I think of the game!).

i think that is the key and i think it is a realistic outcome.

i know what you mean. i think just about everyone here is still coming to terms with us actually being in it and are too stunned to post their thoughts.

does anyone think that playing 3 night finals in a row will affect us?

we will win because of the midfield and effective I50's

                      3 night finals

punter257 - no. playing the three night finals in a row is a help before it's a hinderance. 1) we get a slightly longer break - and 2) according to the law of statistical regularity, to win three night games in a row is less likely than to win two and then win a day game...

We will win because we're able to break even at the stoppages. In general play, IMHO, we are a far stronger team, but with their skills in tight and ability to get the ball into space from the packs for the likes of Judd and Kerr to run on to, the stoppages are critical.

The Wiggles will try to play a shootout. They know that that is their best chance to beat us - run hard, kick long to Gardiner and Hansen, a bunch of classy midfielders running thru to crumb goals. Two teams with very different styles. Bloods will need to be prepared to run and kick, like 4th against StK

Roos is a better tactician and will out coach Worsfold.

Swans can guarantee an even contribution while West COast will rely on a few stars.

Swans forward structure should eventually tear apart the Eagles as game goes on
