I'm a nervous ball of energy tonight / this morning. 5.5 hours until I leave home for what I hope will be one of the greatest moments of my life so far....................
I wrote this while waiting around. Hope you enjoy it. And yes it's got a surfing theme to it in honour of Ryan O'Keefe's passion for surfing.
It?s a balancing game. You?ve been there from March to September and rode the waves up and down. A couple of weeks ago you were on the crest of the wave. How did you get there? Hard work and commitment. How have you stayed there? A juggling act. Not too far ahead of yourself otherwise you?d topple forward and nose dive. Not too far back or you?d fall on your arse. Stay in the middle and you go nowhere.
Three weeks ago you were high on the crest again having the ride of your life, then Whooska! You felt it going on without you. A slight adjustment and you were hanging on for dear life. The choice, give it away paddle out and try again next time or point forward and keep going.
It?s a heady rush and again you feel it?s almost beyond you but the wave turns and you?re still alive and enjoying the ride of your life.
Tides are hard to judge so you keep going, keep striving to stay afloat, every obstacle you reach you push further. The shore is getting closer and as much as you don?t want the ride to end, as this is ride of your life, THE PERFECT WAVE. The one which people will speak of for years to come.
You know it?s the best wave you?ve had the privilege of being on.
Your whole life has been about this moment.
Your head is buzzing
You want this wave to end now arms raised in triumph, but you?re a little way out from the shore. Do you point you nose forward and race down the wave or do you go steady and ride it out to the shore?
Time will tell and history will show how your ride will be remembered, but you are a contender and that ride will always be one that you remember.
The shore is even closer now and the prize is within your grasp. It?s now or never!
